Clair Cornish got what he wanted over the weekend. The 17-year old Port Perry native was selected by the Oshawa Generals in the Onta- rio Hockey League draft held in North York. He was selected in the fourth round by the Gens, the 656th player taken overall by the teams in the OHL. There were some 700 players eligible for the draft on the weekend. Cornish will attend the Generals training camp in Oshawa when it opens Labour Day weekend. If he gets a spot on their line up, he most likely will have to board in Oshawa and attend school there in order to meet the very demanding practise and game schedules. Cornish, who played all his minor hockey in Port Perry where he was an outstanding skater, playmaker and scoring threat, was the first forward se- lected by the Generals. Their first three picks included a goal- ie and two defensemen. Last season, Cornish played Junior B hockey with the Newmarket 87's and aver- aging just about a point per game, had a successful rookie year. Clair Cornish hopes that this fall he can swap his New- market 87s windbreaker for the colours of the Oshawa Gen- erals of the OHL. The Port Perry native was selected by the Gens In the OHL draft over the weekend, and he plans to be at the training camp. Oshawa Generals take Cornish in OHL draft Two seasons ago, while still of Bantam age, he on Wa spark the Port Perry Midgets to an all- Ontario BB title. Most observers feel he is one of the finest prospects to ever come out of the Port Perry Minor Hockey system.
