1988 was 30% higher PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, June 6, 1989 -- 3 Residential housing starts down this year The number of residential housing starts in Scugog Town- ship is down by nearly 30 per cent this year, compared with with 1988. A report covering the first four months of the year issued last week by the Township's 'Building department, shows 63 . permits for single family homes, compared with 90 for the same period last year. While the number of per- mits is down, it appears as if people are building more expen- sive homes. The reports shows the 63 homes to date have a value of $9.6 million. Last year, the 90 homes carried a value of just over $11 million. Although construction of new homes is down so far this year, the value of building per- mits issued for all types of con- struction is keeping pace with 1988.
