Jack and Helen Green along with Stuart and Helen Dor- rell of Charlton attended their 40th reunion, Richard and Ruby Van Camp and Glenn and Marion Larmer were at their 35th, Den- zil and Tallya Moore attended Denzil's 25th reunion and Lawrence Van Camp was at his 5th reunion. What a lot of visiting would be going on at these various reunions. On their way home from Kemp- tville the Richard Van Camps and Glenn Larmers called on Lisa and John Kristensen at their new home in Oxford Mills. Congratulations to Joan Teague (nee Venning) who was elected President of O.P.S.T.F. last week. On Sunday June 4th Dale, Janet and Michael Van Camp hosted a birthday breakfast to celebrate Mary's 3rd birthday. Attending were Merrill and Norma Van Camp, Valerie Van Camp, Bob and Marie Attfield, Jamie, Mark and Scott, Percy Van Camp and Aileen Van Camp. Happy birth- day Mary. : Many from this area attended and enjoyed-the many events at Brooklin Spring Fair. Beautiful weather and large crowds made for a very successful weekend. Next Sunday Cartwright Union Cemetery Decoration Service will be held at 2:30. Rev. Fred Swan will be the speaker. There were 11 tables at the weekly card party with the follow- ing winners - 1. On Wednesday evening a suc- cessful Arts Nights was held at the C.C.P.S, when both the Public Sheool and High School Bands under the expert direction of John Beirness performed. Also the play Turret Rose was per- formed by the High School under the direction of Susan Ellis. A very special evening of entertainment. Bride-to-be Sue Fraser, fiancee of Robert Green, was honoured recently at a" shower in the Anglican Parish Hall hosted by Helen, Natalie and Linda Green. Following the opening of the many beautiful gifts, Sue replied fittingly and desserts and beverages were enjoyed by all in attendance. . The Blackstock Agricultural Society's Auction sale was a fine success. The Board appreciated the support of the community in this fund-raising event. Congratulations to Benny and Margaret Witteveen who celebated their 25th wedding an- niversary with a dinner and dance at the Nestleton Hall. This happy event was attended by relatives, friends and neighbours. Congratulations. Welcome to 1 Donelda Court Steve and Cheryl Chabot and children Steven and Susan formerly of Oshawa. 'Lorne and Maxine Hoskin en- joyed attending the 75th birthday party on Sunday in honour of Albert Cawker's 75th birthday. This party was held at the beautiful home of his son Danny Cawker of Port Perry. In last week's list of graduates somehow the name of Jay Van Camp was missed. Jay graduated from Durham College in Materials Management. Area PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, June §, 1989 -- 5) Several couples attend Kemptville Reunion Blackstock and Area News by Joyce Kelly oni Councillor Don Cochrane did a bang up job of auctioning off the hundreds of items at the Blackstock Falrboard Fundraiser on the week- end. The Community Centre was full of useful household items, clothing and assorted odds and ends. The ples, brownies and sundry goodies weren Markham, Debbie Van Camp at- tended the Convocation Exer- cises. Jay is now employed at Kwik-Kopy Canada Corp. at Markham. Several local weddings have taken place very recently, in very beautiful weddings. Last Satur- day Kelly Guernsey became Mrs. Farrell while on this past Satur- day Heather Locke became Mrs. Gaylord. Sorry that I do not have the groom's first names. Last Saturday Rick Huntington took as his bride Korin Drew at Port Perry United Church. Best wishes to all of these young couples. Bruce Mountjoy and Dalton Dorrell enjoyed a trip to Charlton, Northern Ontario to visit Stuart 't bad elther. and Helen Dorrell and family. Congratulations to Lynn McLaughlin who graduated with her Bachelor of Science at Con- vocation Exercises at Guelph University on Friday. Lynn received several scholarships. Presently Lynn is employed at the Royal Bank in Peterborough.. Congratulations Lynn. Nursing Homes residents to raise funds with Kiss a Pig Contest' by Wendy Clark Coming up during the week of June 18-24th is Nursing Home Week. Several special programs are scheduled throughout this week. One major activity is our fundraising program in which the residents raise money for the fatal disease "Alzheimers." This year we will be having a "Kiss a Pig Contest."" Residents . will be supporting pledges, so be sure to sponsor them. Alzheimers is the 4th leading cause of death among Canadians. It is the result of a degenerative brain condition for which there is at present no known cause or cure. The residents are proud to raise money for this disease which does affect quite a few of their fellow senior citizens, For other special programs be sure tp stay tuned. Tuesday May 23rd was bowling. HOGAN 230 Queen Street * NOTE NEW NUMBER * 985-4422 WED. ONLY 10 5PM several residents went by car or handi-transit to the Woolco Shop- ping Mall for a day of shopping. Alot of much needed baking and kitchen supplies were bought. Everyone enjoyed their delicious lunch at the Whitby Mall Restaurant. Thursday was a very busy day with crafts, wood work- ing, flower arranging and darts. "Sneaker Day" was held all across Canada on Friday May 26th. Everyone participated by wearing their favourite sneakers. Many interested Bingo players took part in an exciting game. For the inactive residents they played a bowling game. Monday May 29th there were many different activities throughout the day. Baking, plan- ting outside plants and musical appreciation. Our monthly birth- day party for May was held on Tuesday (30th). Everyone took part in the game of SINGO and 3 gh 'birthday cake. The following day we had a quiz on summer-time. A few of the ladies were kept oc- cupied by making a batch of stew- ed rhubarb. Over the first 2 days of June we hosted crafts, baking, bingo and men's darts. Birthday wishes are extended to Mr. Ted Whitter (8), Mr. Jack Riseborough (13) and Mr. Frank Dowson (19). Staff members celebrating bir- thdays are Lorraine Bibeau and Linda Hughs. Best wishes to them. .
