Congratulations to the honoured employees. Saturday evening Nancy and Bob Bryans were guests at a din- ner and dance at Fenelon Falls Legion held for long-time friend Peg Sheehey. Peg was Manager of the Bank of Montreal in Fenelon and had been there as an employee for 37 years. A community shower will be held at the Blackstock United Church C.E. Room for bride-to-be Elizabeth Luke on Sunday after- . noon June 25. All ladies are welcome to attend. On Friday evening June 16 the Blackstock District Girl Guide Award Ceremony will be held in the Blackstock United Church at 7:15 p.m. Two Guides will be honoured their All Round Cords as well as other awards being presented to Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders, Rangers and ~ Leaders, Please come out and show your support for this wor- thwhile organization. Congratulations to Linda Vehof and Rob Franssen who were mar- ried at the Port Perry Roman Catholic Church in a beautiful wedding on Saturday afternoon. Congratulations to Harry and Bertha McLaughlin who celebrated their 60th wedding an- niversary over the weekend. On Saturday evening their family and close friends joined for a din- ner at the Parish Hall. On Sunday a large number of friends and relatives gathered at an Open House to wish the honoured cou- ple well. Best wishes for many more years together. Helen Pardon of Oshawa was a Sunday evening caller of Neil and Elaine Bailey. Victor and Ruby Parsons of Col- borne were Sunday evening din- ner guests of Gerald and Joyce Kelly, Elaine and Esther. On Sunday evening Linda Kyte's students held a fine recital which was well attended by fami- ly and friends. A delightful varie- ty of style of music and level of Proceeds to The Hospital Fund and Ontario Autistic Society 'Students made for a pleasant programme. On Sunday morning the annual Sunday School Anniversary ser- vice was held at the United Church. A very informal service was conducted by Su tendent Linda Bradburn and her staff of teachers. Several presentations were given by the classes during the service. Rev. D. Davis gave a short message on Creation and Care of the Environment. Follow- ing the service a barbecue was held on the Church lawn. On Sunday afternoon a fine crowd attended the Decoration Service held at Union Cemetery. Rev. R. Swann conducted the ser- vice and gave an appropriate message. Merrill VanCamp gave remarks on behalf of the Cemetery Board. Bruce Mountjoy enjoyed having his family home following the Decoration Service. Eleanor Werry and Elaine Bailey took their mother Mrs. Grant Thompson to Beaverton where they visited Mrs. Thomp- son's two sisters Mrs. Mary Naylor and Mrs. Grace Davis as well as Mr. Thompson's sister Mrs. Vera Warmington. On Wednesday afternoon David Payne, retiring teacher from Cartwright High School, was honoured at a Retirement Party which was attended by col- leagues, former students and teachers from various areas. Con- gratulations and best wishes to Mr. Payne who has been here for the past 19 years. The General U.C.W. meeting was held in the C.E. Room on Tues. May 30 at 7:30 p.m. Presi- dent Jean Adams began by reading a poem, 'Something Beautiful." The hymn, "As Comes the Breath of Spring," was ung and a video, 'Wondrous Love - People of God in Mission" was viewed. The Scripture, taken from Matthew 25: 31-40, em- phasized our mandate to share God's gifts as we work together in His name. *'Spirit of the Living God' was sung and the attractive bulletin board display showing where our Hiission dollars go was highlighted. Our Social Issues Convenor reminded us that June is our month to support the Food Bank - special n are canned meat (not tuna), dry cereal, paper pro- ducts, coffee, tea and sugar. Mavis Brodie - Red Cross Homemaker - then spoke to us about the many varied aspects of her work. A homemaker, who needs patience, a sense of humour, understanding and car- ing, helps to keep the aged and handicapped in their own homes. Her informative, enlightening comments were appreciated by all present. : Orange Lodge News Readers of this column, especially newer residents of the village, may not be aware that two Orange Lodges do exist in Blackstock. They are the Cart- wright Ladies Orange Benevolent Association No. 849 and the Blackstock Loyal Orange Lodge No. 133. This year the 12th of Ju- ly Commemoration will be held in nearby Port Perry on Saturday, July 8, 1989. The Parade will leave Palmer Park on Water Street at 1:30 p.m. and return to same park. After the Parade there will be band contests and other plann- ed entertainment. Blackstock"s '"'newish" Banner will be in the Port Perry Parade this year, sup- ported by the Fife and Drum Band of Kendal L.O.L. No. 405.
