Scugog Township Council has commissioned a feasibility study to examine proposals for the Township to erect an arena, a community hall and an aquatics complex at Port Perry's Scugog Center. The Study committee is being chaired by Glenn McCoy, and has membership from both the Township council and the public: councillors Yvonne Christie and Allan Goreski; Pam Fis, Wayne Hancock, Martha Larson, Tom Patton, Wayne Wilson and John Woodward. The committee has developed the terms of reference for the study, and made recommendations to Council regarding both the scope of the study and the consultants The Nepean firm of Sesquaig Incorporated, which completed the Township's Recreational Needs Study in 1987, will conduct the study for the Township. The study gets started on Thursday, June 22 at 8:00 p.m., when a public meeting will be held at the Municipal Offices in Port Perry. Mr. McCoy explains that the purpose of the meeting is to en- sure that Scugog residents are well informed about the study, and that they know how they can take part in the study itself. "Public participation is an essen- tial ingredient in the planning pro- cess," he says. "It is very impor- tant that the consultants talk to all interested citizens, and to see representatives of all the organizations in the Township who may have an interest in these proposed major new recreational facilities." All interested persons will be in- vited to attend private meetings with the consultants. The public's views will also be gathered by means of a survey. .
