Credit goes out to the late Mrs. John Bruce Dodd, Spokane, Wash., U.S. who had the idea in 1910 to set aside the third Sunday in June, for North America's fathers. .and it has become an International holdiay! What Is A Father? Bless him, O Lord Whether Dad is young or old, he always holds a 'special' placein our hearts. Blue Ray Chapter Elects Officers This interesting meeting open- ed in regular form with W.M. Sister Marilyn Jones & W.P. Brother Wilfred Alexander presiding. The Canadian Flag was presented by Marshal Richard Windsor and atter O'Canada was sung at the Altar, the Flag was placed in the East. Conductress Debby Davis, had the pleasure of introducing the following Sisters & Brothers - Sheila Anderson, Past Grand Matron of Ontario, D.D. G.M. Catherine Ellis, P.D.D.G.M's Bessie Cosway & Thelma Beer- thuizen, Past Matrons & Patrons from Sunbeam, Durham, Whitby, Pinecrest - Cookstown, and Blue Ray Past Matrons & Patrons. Sister Laura P.M. & Brother Fred Alton P.P. of Cookstown. af- filiated with Blue Ray during the evening...a special welcome to them! The election of Officers was handled by W.P. Wilfred Alex- ander, assisted by Bessie & Staf- ford Cosway, Frances Westfall, Frances Gibson & Debby Davis. All Offices were duly filled for the coming year. Under Good & Welfare, Sister Sheila Anderson spoke briefly, stating how happy she was to be in Blue Ray...congratulating Sister Marilyn Jones and her of- ficers re - their work, and remind- ed Marilyn that it was 24 years since she had received the degrees of the order in Clovelly Chapter when Sheila was the Wor- thy Matron. After the busy meeting, all retired to the lower Hall, where conveners, Assoc. Matron Jane Galbraith & Assoc. Patron Alastair Newsome served a tasty lunch. Past Matrons Meet Doris Nottingham, Caesarea, hosted the June meeting of the Past Matrons Club with 11 pre- sent. They enjoyed the delicious meal, followed by a brief business period with president Kay Walker in the chair, assisted by acting secretary Marg Jeffrey. Later they had fun playing Balderdash - before heading home. The Churches On a wet June 18, Sunday, a smaller than usual attendance at Nestleton United. Kay Notman and family were greeting at the door and Barb Weir was Usher. The ladies choir sang, 'Memories of Galilee" very harmoniously. Rev. Dale Davis told the children present a story. His sermon, "Be- ing An Example' had a Father's Day theme. A new hymn, "To Show By Touch and Word" clos- ed the service. Next Sunday, June 25 at 11:15 a.m. is the Sunday School Anniversary. After the Church Service the Congrega- _ tional picnic will be held at the home of Chris Davis, Scugog Point Road. Sunday, July 2 at 10:30 a.m. is the combined out- door Worship Service for the charge, held at the home of Art & Barb Weir on the 'Cartwright- , MON R.R. 3 Port Perry Ontario. Peggy Jones and Alison Scott sang a lovely duet, '"The Lord's My Shepherd." Rev. F. Swann spoke on the topic, '"The fruitless fig-tree"" from Scripture Luke 13: 1-9. Service at 11 a.m. next Sun- day with Holy Communion. In Ju- ly there will be no services...but will resume again in August. At the Caesarea Community Church on Sunday, June 18, 11 a.m. saw a good congregation and service was conducted by the minister Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford with a Father's Day theme. He spoke on "A Father's Concern." The Father's role in life - 1. He is a Protecter. 2. He is a provider. 3. He is the man in charge. In Old Testament days, the Father was also the Priest in the family. This requires that Father be a God Fearing man, a man of Faith. Father has to be a Leader in his family, this position gives him, or commands respect. Youth is look- ing for Good Leadership. Lessons from Mark were read by Harry Keizebrink and Klass Stek. The responsive reading taken by the minister. Two beautiful special solos by Angie Keizebrink... ac- companied by herself on the - piano. Kathy Watts at the organ. Caesarea Euchre First prize winner at the Wed. evening euchre held at Caesarea Hall was Sharon Smith with 81. Second prize - James Emerton with 76. Low score - a tie with Grace Short & Albert Watts each holding 54. Faith Lawrence was convener of the lunch. The Ladies Auxiliary will hold a meeting on Wed., June 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the Hall. Sympathy Our heartfelt sympathy 'is ex- tended to Richard and Janice MacKenzie, Claire and Leslie of Nestleton, in the passing of Richard's father, Dr. W.F. MacKenzie M.D. M.C. in Toronto General Hospital this past Wednesday. A warm and giving and loving man who will be sadly missed by the family and many, many friends! : Father Sam had a happy Father's Day, with family phone calls from those far away...and a noon luncheon with son Alan & Eleanor Cawker of Oshawa. To top it off...a great visit was en- joyed and they watched the baseball game between Seattle & Toronto Blue Jays at the Dome!
