Cycle Club hits streets In its first niajor run, the Port Perry Cycle Club raised approx- imately $1,600 for the Royal Ontario Museum. Four members of the club took part in the Tour of Toronto, a fundraiser for the museum held Sunday June 11. Jim Wills, Beth Potter, Ron Teel and Chip Green together pedalled 221.5 km. in the heart of Toronto. The three men cycled the long course (11 km.) while Mrs. Pot- ter opted for the shorter course (6.6 km.). A three hour time lim- it was set, and the more times cyclists could make it around the courses, the more money they could contribute the mu- seum's educational programs. Mr. Green travelled 69.6 km.; Mr. Wills and Mr. Teel each cy- cled 58.5 km.; and Mrs. Potter went 35 km. J was the first ma- jor event the gycle club has par- ticipated in. An estimated 2800 people from all over attended the first annual Tour of Toronto, which was run in conjunction with the well-established ROM Classic, a highly-competitive race for top-flight cyclists. Cycling stars Jocelyn Lovell, Gord Singleton and Slyvia Bur- ka were at the race, although they didn't ride on the closed course that included Bloor St., Rosedale Valley and the Bay- view Extension hill. Nonquon Travellers post 2 wins and one defeat The Nonquon Travellers had a 3 game week, picking up 2 vic- tories and a loss. The Travellers played Pineridge and came home with- a 84 win. Roland Osske threw 6 strong innings, then gave way to Tim Thompson who col- lected the save. With a 4-4 tie going into the 7th inning the Travellers got bases loaded, then Pineridge pitching walked in 2 runs, then Tim Thompson ran 6 in 2 RBI's with a single.
