34 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, June 20, 1989 Four straight for girls team Homstead Furniture Mosqui- to Girls Soccer team made it 'four wins in a row on Thursday night by trouncing Whitby Dairy Queen 8-1. Once again the Furniture girls took control early on two goals by Shauna Cornish in the first ten minutes of play. Whit- by tried hard to score and were finally rewarded with a goal at the 20 minute mark. The Whitby goal was what our girls needed in order to mount another attack and scored two more goals. The first by Kelly Phipps and the second by Amanda Webb. The first half ended with Homestead leading 4-1. Hot game for Heating gang MITES 9-10 YEAR OLDS On June 6th, Perfect Heating's Greenbank team showed its fire by winning their third game of the season against B & R Electric 20-0. Hot players for Greenbank were Jeremy Gibson with a grand slam and went 4 for 4 at the plate. Greg Phayre and Dana Hooker also hit 4 for 4. Amanda Robinson played great defense on 3rd base and Graeme Powell getting two out in the 6th inning covering 2nd base. Playing a great pitching game for B & R Electric was Kevin Duncan who only allowed 4 runs in 3 innings. Shona'Moase played a great defensive game on Ist base and Cara Vander Slagt who scored the only run for B & R Electric. On June 13th Perfect Heating and D.J. Taylor had a fun game against each other with Perfect Heating taking the win 13-9. Mike Phoenix played a good solid game along with Heather Harris and Graeme Powell who hit well for Greenbank. B & R Electric saw Laura Hooker do some outstanding plays and catches from the field. Ryan Maynes hit a nice triple and Christopher Langford played a good solid first game. Kelly Phipps made 6-1 with her second goal, Shauna Cornish with her third goal made it 7-1 and Sara Co- sway with her second goal rounded out the scoring at 8-1. The girls continue to show good team play and hard work. Strong defensive play by Lisa Dodd, Emily Cosway and Mi- chelle Brown broke up many plays of the Dairy Queen girls. A strong game was also turned in by Kyla McCrae, Heather Bredin, Sarah Coyne, Shannon MacDonald. Next game is Thursday June 22 in Ajax. 7-8 Mites Lucyk-McPhee notched their second win of this young season downing Valu-Mart by a 12-7 count. Heavy hitters for Lucyk- McPhee were Cary Cleyndert and Michael Cooper who both went 3 for 8. Meanwhile out in the field Lisa Lefort and Ashley Johnston turned in steady per- formances. For Valu-Mart, Jennifer Don- nelly went 2 for 3 at the plate and also came up with a nice play in the field. Christopher Thompson went 2 for 3 at bat and Leanne Holt was perfect in her 2 at bats. DA wins Determination carried Do- minion Auto home to Uxbridge with the Championship at Sat- urday's Women's Lob Ball Round Robin Tournament. Ridge North hosted a four team match in Port Perry which almost escaped the rain until the fourth inning of the fi- nal game. The consolation winners were Pineridge Blues from Port Perry. Ridge North were the run- ners' up. and Timm's Garage, from Saintfield were the second consolation team. Millar Lights .
