He is a twin brother to Mr. John Jefford's father. 20 YEARS AGO : Thursday, July 3, 1969 John Popovitch, a devoted employee of Flamingo Pastries Limited, has been promoted to manage the new plant in Dut- ton, Ontario. 'Miss Bernice Mappin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Map- pin, Nestleton, graduated from Peterborough Teachers College. She will be teaching at R.H. Cornish Public School. Cec. King, treasurer and Gordon Prentice, president of the Port Perry Lions Club, presented a cheque for $2,000 to Mr. B.A. Bohan, Hospital Administrator. The Lions Club pledged $5,000 to the new hospital and this was the second installment of $,2000. The remaining $1,000 will be donated next year. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Lutteral and family are at present with her parents, Rev. E. and Mrs. McNeil, Seagrave. Mr. Lutteral, an officer in R.C.A F., has been transferred back to Ottawa so they will be taking up residence at Camp Borden soon. Students of Grade IV, Reach Central School, Greenbank, along with their teachers and several parents enjoyed a tour of the parliament buildings recently. The tour was arranged by Dr. M.B. Dymond, Ontario Minister of Health. The group also visited the Royal Ontario Museum and Riverdale Zoo. 10 YEARS AGO ' Wednesday, June 27, 1979 A Canadian Forces Huey twin engine helicopter made an unscheduled stop in a grassy field behind the Port Perry Car Wash on Highway 7A after developing a leak in a fuel line last Friday morning. The seven men on board were with the 430 helicopter squadron based in Val Cartier, Quebec & were retur- ning home from CFB Borden. Jesse Robertson & Ernie Healey, Port Perry Senior Citizens Club were crowned King and Queen last week at the Latcham Centre. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kerry celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary last Sunday at the Community Nursing Home. The Scugog Ratepayers Association has called a public meeting for this evening to deal exclusively with taxes and municipal financing. Scott Branton received a plaque from Armour McMillan for highest academic achievement by a graduating student at Greenbank School. Mrs. John Murray of Port Perry celebrated her 90th Birth- day on June 19 with family and friends.
