New Name for Central Seven PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, June 27, 1989 -- 25 Association for Community Living by Rob Streich Central Seven held their annual General Meeting last week and unanimously adopt- ed a new name - The Central Seven Association for Commu- nity Living. This will be the third name change the organization has gone through(five years ago they changed from Association for Mentally Retarded to Asso- ciation for the Developmentall Handicapped) and one whic the members feel will more ade- quately reflect the goals and in- tentions of the association. A new group home was es- tablished in Prince Albert, to serve the needs of five clients. An intensive staff training program was undertaken, pro- viding education in crisis pre- vention and intervention, su- pervisory training and stress management and first aid. Together with four other local agencies, a respite service was established which will pro- vide temporary relief for adults caring for handicapped friends or family. Strides have been made in the past year in emphasizing vocational and work training towards the goal of community placement. While the operating ex- penses have not increased sub- stantially, the new projects have required the input of pri- vate and government funding which has brought the level of expenditure for the year to ap- proximately 1.3 million (un- audited). Children will be exposed to crafts, songs, games, camp skills and nature lore. The second Thursday of each session will be both a parents night (to allow your child to act and sing for you), and an over- night. During this time a night program will be provided for your child as well as the three meals needed. Jr. camp costs $155.00 for a two week session, $175.00 with transportation.
