20 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, July 5, 1989 Scugog Island Area News by Mrs. Earl Reader ~ We are so happy to be blessed with 2 ideal weather weekends even if the temperatures were un- comfortable. But we also realize it brings traffic frustrations and some accidents to mar the pleasures. Pioneer Days at the museum managed to have a very suc- cessful weekend without rain at some period, which is customary. Next Saturday is another big day on the Island at the Com- munity Hall where the event will be inside with comfort. Here, you will find a score of ladies from the Women's Institute prepared to serve you with baked goods, craft items, clothing, flea table & lunch. The hall will be open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The proceeds will be used for Social Club touring Cullen community work. The "Head" U.C.W. will meet at Mrs. Frieda Cochrane's Wednesday July 5 at 4 p.m. & members will please bring a pot luck lunch. On Saturday June 24 Donna & Brian Samis were married in the Island United Church and are liv- ing on Conc. 6. About 3 weeks ago John Needham of Conc. 9 went to B.C. to attend the funeral of his father who formerly lived at the Foot of the Island. A short time ago, Doreen Adams' father, Mr. Hanley, had an eye operation in Toronto and is doing well in recovery. Another bus trip to Roy Thomp- son Hall is coming up August 25. Epsom and Area News by Jean Jeffery Church at 11:15 at Utica July 9. The Sunday School has organized a summer church programme for the children. Adults and children will worship together for the first half of the service. For the second half the children will join together to enjoy in activities related to the Scripture lesson of the day. It will be a relaxed and fun programme. - The U.C.W. thank Pat Asling for an enjoyable evening, June 20, viewing her slides from her latest medical mission at Beliye. We hope for good weather and a splendid evening July 7 at the home of Doug and Beth Wilson who will host a barbecue and evening of sports for Holstein Breeders and Milk Board. All welcome. : A note of sympathy to Darlene Christie in the passing of her aunt Mrs. Beryl Martin in Oshawa. To know her was to love her. (Quite an honour!) The bus will leave Port Perry at 9:30 a.m. You may attend a pre show at 11 a.m. & the afternoon entertainment continues to 4 p.m. Then the bus people go across to "Ed's Warehouse' restaurant for dinner. The complete expense will be $37.50 & you may reserve tickets from Mrs. Bettie Smith 985-7639 at Port View Beach. Now, you will have time to think about this & plan ahead. But I'll remind you again. Joyce Lewchuk and children of Stoney Creek spent Friday and Saturday with her parents Marie and Earl Wilson. Rev. United Way ) leno ed amy v- J Early Wednesday morning a man was walting for a ride to work on Queen Street when he saw two deer running from R.H. Cornish Public School, across the road, and north on Sliver Street. One deer cut through the man's backyard, while the other ran across another front yard. Unfortunately, the female deer that crossed Naomi Kent's front yard ran straight into a chain link fence and broke her neck. Mrs. Kent figures the deer "must have been spooked."
