Have they not drilled them to walk on sidewalks or well off the travelled portion of the road to avoid being hit by a car? To the best of my recollection, "when | was a kid," we al- ways gave the right of way to vehicular traffic. | honestly don't remember ever challenging the driver of any vehicle for the right of the road. The judging is not on the amount of skin showing or the poise and grace of the contestants, rather it is on how much they can earn for the Chambers' charity fund. | feel a bit like | am back in school running for student coun- cil. "Vote for Rob, he will outlaw algebra and make lunch an hour longer. You won't strike out if your vote for Rob. A vote for Rob is better than corn on the cob." You get the picture! Late in the race, it is imperative that my big push be under- way now - so instructs my campaign manager (and former con- testant herself, Cathy O.). "It's dog eat dog out there. You are not out to get second place - win, win, WIN! Go out and make the biggest possible fool of yourself, it's for a good cause." I have been racking my brains for a gimmick, something to give me an edge over all the other sexy people out there who have plenty of friends in Sougog - what can | give people that no one else can match? Autograph, lock of hair, undying thanks? Odd suggestions have included; going out for talent night at Rocky's, wearing a sandwich board and walking up Queen Street - just the board - or getting a hair implant for my chest. | know this CommUY is asked to dip into its pockets for worthy causes with some frequency, but in this case, votes can be cast at only a penny a shot. If each of the 15,000 people in Scugog Township votes for me only one time, well, then the Hospital Building Fund will get a nice bit of largess. During the next week, if you see me on the street rattling a can, looking for a vote or two, why not help out? With me as busy as | am, | will even make it easy for those who cannot catch up to me to lay their hefty donation in my eager palm. In the front office of the Port Perry Star is a container (a teddy bear jar - so-o0 cute) with my picture and name on it. Don't be shy, walk right in and exercise your right as a citizen of this democra- cy by voting for ME, as many times as you wish. I am infrequently accused of being sexist, but | know that the young, single ladies out there would rather see me win this category then some (yech) female. So stand tall and make your vote count (look for my face gracing a window near you). Anyone wishing to volunteer for my campaign is welcome; poster-painters, canvassers, megaphone operators and espe- cially media relations positions are open.
