32 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, July 11, 1989 Pony Club member third in Tetrathalon Keith Reid of Blackstock placed third overall in the Cen- tral Ontario Regional Tetrath- lon, Junior Boys category. He is a member of the Dur- ham Pony Club. The Tetrathlon puts horse- back riders through their paces, combining riding (speed, time, distance), running, shooting and swimming. The contest was held June 24 and 25. Keith placed first in swim- ming, second in running, third in riding and fifth in shooting to capture third place overall. He scored 3,108 points out of a pos- sible 4,600 points. The Junior Boys are aged 12 to 14. Other results of Durham Pony club members are as fol- lows: First place overall, in Novice Girls (aged 11 and under), Jen- nifer Evanshen, first in run- ning, fifth in shooting, eighth in swimming. Fourth place over- all, Trina Jabusch, second in swimming, fifth in running, sixth in shooting. Tricia Mayne came third in swimming, eighth in riding. Ka- tie Jamieson placed 10th in shootingand 10th in running. ~ In Junior Girls (age 12 to 14), Tara Evanshen placed third in running and sixth in: swim- ming. Sarah Jamieson placed fourth inshooting. In Senior Girls (age 15 to 21), Donna Brewer placed fourth overall with a second in riding, a third in swimming, a fourth in running and a fourth in shoot- ing. Gurham Pony Club is cele- brating its tenth anniversary this year with a pot luck supper on August 11 to be held at the residence of Terry Evanshen in Brooklin. To help celebrate, the Town of Whitby dedicated a beautiful flower bed next to the Whitby Information centre in honour of the occasion. Canadian Pony Club is formed from 10 regions stretch- ing from coast to coast. Central Ontario is one of these regions in which there are 27 branch clubs. Durham Pony Club has been in existence since 1979. Pony Club was started in England by the Hunt Clubs in Big night for the hitters On Tuesday July 4th, Bruton's L.D.A. hosted Norton's Home Im- provement 9-10 year old mites. Bruton's LD.A. came away 18-7 winners. Stephen Ball and Chris Orr each went 4 for 4 at the plate, driv- ing in 11 RBI's between them. Other hitters were Brad Monsma, Ian Parliament, Amy Evans and Chris Faulkner.lan, Brad and Stephen shared the pitching. Scott Jeffries, Adam Jones, Adam James were the big hitters for Norton's. In this game Norton's pulled off a rare triple play with two men on and nobody out. Well done Norton's. Special thanks to Rich Parlia- ment and Ivan Jeffries for a well umpired game. - On Tuesday July 4, B & R Elec- tric beat Irwin Smith 16-13. An amazing play in the first inning Another win for Homestead Homestead Furniture Mosquito Girls Soccer team rolled up yet another win. This time it was Pickering who suffered defeat by a score of 5-0. Shauna Cornish had two goals and Kelly Phipps one goal in the first half to make the score 3-0. The second half was all Homestead again and if it wasn't for some terrific saves by the Pickering goalie the score would have been even higher. Sara Cosway connected on a long drive to make the score 4-0. Kelly Phipps scored her second of the game to finish the scoring and make the 5-0. Strong defensive plays were made by Lisa Dodd, Emily Cosway, Kyla McCrae and Elizabeth Scanlon. Sarah Coyne and Paula Reed showed alot of zip and were con- stantly breaking up Pickering plays. The girls play at home on Thursday and they would ap- preciate a large support of parents to cheer them on. Irwin Smith had a potential high scoring inning but ended up with no runs. The double play started with a pop-up to the pitcher, Jason Coish. Jason then tried to double up the runner at first but his throw to Kevin Duncan was just a split second too late. Kevin tried to do the same thing to the runner on second base, but his throw to Shona Moase was also just a bit too late. By this time the runner who had been on third had cross- ed home plate and couldn't beat Shona's throw to Johnathon Froats who was the third baseman. Irwin Smith redeemed themselves in the next two inn- ings by scoring 5 runs each. For B & R Electric, Johnathon missed hitting for the cycle by one hit. He had a triple, double, and a single, All that was missing was a home run. He also helped out defensively with 1 assist and 2 put outs at third. This is taught by a method of testing procedures for each lev- el which is uniform throughout Canada. As well as testing, Pony Club provides competition in differ- ent horse sports, lectures, camps, quizzes, and social events. Pony Club provides many competitions from local club events to Regional Competi- tions, National Competitions and International Competi- tions. These National and Inter- national Competitions give competitors a chance to travel and make new friends across Canada and the world. June 27 oF Rotary Club 1 Scugog Lumber 0 It was another well played game this week with the Rotary Club coming out on top with the only goal of the game scored by Zachary Fis with the game being so close the players had the parents sitting on the edge of their seats all the way through. Even though Scugog Lumber lost the game it was still fun for all. On April 29, Durham Pony Club competed in Central Onta- rio Regional Quiz and placed third overall. In the Fall, Bobbi Lehman of Durham Pony Club will compete in National Quiz to be held in Nova Scotia. Vicki Robinson of Durham Pony Club will be competing in the International Prince Philip Games to be held in Ireland in August. Vicki is one of five Ca- nadians representing the Mounted Games Association of Canada at this event. Donna Brewer, a Senior in Durham Pony Club, recently competed in Central Ontario Regional Tetrathlon, an event consisting of riding, running, shooting and swimming.
