-~ Impatient baby couldn't wait to get to hospital (From page 1) to go to Oshawa General Hospi- tal. Her son James was playing in the house. Everything was going accord- ing to plan--until Sharon went into the bathroom, leaned' against the countertop, and suf- fered a sharp pain. "The first pain I got, I knew we weren't going to make it to Oshawa," she said. "It all hap- pened so fast. "I never got any labour. I nev- er had to push. I got two sharp pains and that was it." With the two short pains, the baby, a girl, was born. Sharon was horrified enough by the birth, but she was even more frightened when she real- ized the baby wasn't breathing. She didn't know what to do-- she hadn't even taken any La- maze classes. But, "It's amazing how in- stinct takes over." Without really understand- ing what she was doing, Sharon cleared the baby's mouth, turned her upside down and swatted her small behind. The baby let out a howl and started breathing. She washed the infant's face and that's when Mario walked in the door. Seeing his wife in the bath- room, he asked her, "What are you holding?" : When he realized Sharon was: holding their baby, he went to Police looking for suspect pieces. "He was a mess," Sharon re- called with a grin. Mario called for an ambu- lance, and the attendants cut the umbilical cord right in the house. Then mother and child were rushed to Port Perry's Commu- nity Memorial Hospital, where they were both pronounced fine. On Friday morning, Sharon seemed relaxed and happy, cud- dling the 6 1b. 8 oz. little girl who was named Michele Marie. "I would say the whole thing took 10 minutes," she said, look- ing down at tiny Michele. Obviously, the ordeal was worth it. -~ Hydrant drains the water tower (From page 1) parking spot. According to a witness, after an exchange of words, the driv- er jumped into his truck and re- versed quickly backing into the hydrant. He then sped off, but not be- ~ fore his license number was taken down by someone wit- nessing the incident. Police have established who PhotoSpecial the owner of the vehicle is, but as of Monday morning had not been able to locate the man. At council Monday morning, road superintendent Ronn MacDonald told councillors there will be a bill to the town- ship for about $500 for equip- ment and men to clean up the mess, but just who is responsi- ble for the hydrant is between the Region and the contractor. PARKINGLOT PROBLEMS In a matter involving the same area as the water hydrant break, council was informed there is an increasing problem with users of the parking area between the two plazas across from the ball park. Mayor Howard Hall told council he has receiv m- plaints from the tenants'above the plazas indicating that the area is becoming a harg-out with excessive drinking and foul language. One man told the Star Sun- day afternoon that his wife was called some very foul names when she asked for him to move recently. : Ronn MacDonald confirmed that the area is a mess, and said they have had to clean the area of debris, which included many broken beer bottles. The area across from the ball diamonds is used very heavily for parking during ball tourna- ments and evening games, but has recently become a hang-out for local youths. Mayor Hall said that he would meet with the police and ask them to patrol the area more aggressively. AAS ERA NS 4 Wl, STRA th at the * .
