It was a good afternoon for Port Perry and area wrestlers who placed in the standings in several categories, including first place for Pat Mastrangelo ick Erwin. Minor Hockey gearing up for early season start Though it may be the height of summer, officials with Port Perry Minor Hockey are getting down to work for the up- coming season. Believe it or not, registra- tion is just about four weeks away. It will be held August 18,19, and 20 at the Scugog Are- na. However, all parents who had children registered last year will be receiving a newslet- ter and registration form by mail in the next few weeks, ac- cording to President Larry Lee. Because the ice will be go- ing into the Scugog Arena earli- er this year than previous, the Minor Hockey season will be getting underway on Septem- ber 6 with a week of power skat- .inginstruction under Mike San- derson. For the past couple of ears, the power skating has n held over the Christmas holiday period, but local hockey officials believe attendance will improve by moving this ahead tothe start of the season. . And this means that team selections and schedules will start earlier this fall than usu- al. ' As for registration, there is abit of good news for parents. Fees will be the same as last year: $145 for one player; $240 for two from the same fam- y broke a ly; and $335 for three. Tyke registration is $95. As usual, there will be a $10 additional charge for any youngster registering after Au- gust 20. Mr. Lee said the organiza- tion anticipates 48 registra- tions this season, an increase of about 20 over last year. And the executive is aiming to provide one practise and one game each week for all house league and rep teams. At a meeting of the execu- tive and directors on July 9, coaches for the rep teams were selected. Bob Spencley will again handle the Novie team. Bryce Jones will coach the Atom 1 squad, taking over the duties from Dave Bourgeois who this season will concentrat- ing his efforts on player devel- opment for the entire organiza- tion. Bryce Jones last year coached the Atom 2squad. This year, the Atom 2 team will be handled by Gary Island who worked with the Pee Wee 2'slastseason. Gary Geer and Ed Teno are back behind the Pee Wee 1 bench again this coming season, and Mike Prechitko and Ray Za- paranuik will be with the Pee Wee 2's. The Bantam 1 coaching du- ties will be handled again by Todd Wilbur and family mem- bers, and Peter Christie has ing their trophies and cash awards. Doug Scott will skipper the | Midget 1, a familiar spot for him, and Dave Barkey will | coach the Juveniles again this | season. | The only rep team coaching | position still open now is for the | Midget 2squad, said Mr. Lee. | Several housel lea | coaches have had their applica- | tions accepted, and others will | be selected as the season draws | closer. | All rep team coaches and managers must have a Level 1 | certificate, and the organiza- tion strongly encourages house league coaches to obtain the same, though this not mandato- ry. Mr. Lee said the organiza- tion is working on plans to bring the one-day coaching clinic to the area, though this has not been confirmed at this time. There are no significant rule changes in place for the coming season. | The very popular and suc- | cessful House League tourna- ment will again be held during the March Break. gp --r SUMMER CLOTHING .
