Ladies auxiliary appeals for help by Judy Phinney Vice-President - P.P.M.H.L.A. The Port Perry Minor Hockey Ladies Auxiliary will be holding their general meeting at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 15 at the arena. So, that doesn't concern me you say - it should! This will probably be the last meeting held by this organization due.to lack of sup- port by the moms of young hockey players. } You know who you are, you ar the ones who don't have any time to spare, you have a job, a home, 2.4 kids to raise BUT who do you think has run this organization all these years - people JUST like you, only we made the time because we wanted to! You say -- I didn't know there was an auxiliary. Of course you didn't, how could you if you drop your kids off at the arena door and come back an hour later. We hold meetings once a month usually lasting one hour. We have a skate exchange, bake sale, a dance, sell pins, Nevada tickets, etc. All things to raise money for Minor Hockey to keep the cost of YOUR registration down. But just 8 ladies can't do it. Registration last year was around 420 kids. If you figure 1-2 kids per family that makes about 150-200 moms. We had 8 last year so where were the rest? The more support we have, the less time you have to give. One "hour, once 'or twice a month isn't too much to ask. We hope we haven't ruffled your apron strings by things said inthis column we just needed you to seé the importance of this "matter. Please come to our meeting Aug. 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the arena. Minor Hockey has offered their support this year, now how about yours?!!! Wednesday, August 9, 1989 -- 29 Port Perry, Stouffville soccer teams tie 1-1 in fun game Three age divisions of soccer were represented in one game at the Scugog Soccer Fields on Thursday August 3, as Atom, Mosquitos and Pee Wees joined forces. The mix up of team players wasn't the only confusing aspect of the game. Emmerson Insurance and the referee were ready to go at 7:00 but there was no sign of the op- position. At 7:35 though the Stouff- ville team arrived explaining that they had been mistakenly over in Uxbridge. The Emmerson In- surance Pee Wees were a little short handed so a few younger brothers were called upon to fill in. All the boys were Scugog Youth Soccer players and below the Pee Wee level so this was well within the rules. Pee Wee, Brad Strichert played well on the foward line with young brother Jamie doing an absolute-' ly super job in goal. Emmerson's Meghan Baxter played well on left wing despite taking a couple of very rough hits. Her brothers Matthew and Gavin gave her lots of support and Matt was responsible for Emmerson's lone goal. Way to go Matt! Mark Cosway and Christina Clarke played aggressively and made some good plays. Michael williams on defense kept right on top of the Stouffville fowards and brother Ryan did a great job at left midfield. The game ended in a 1-1 tie and everyoné would have to agree that it was an entertaining, well played game.
