Our Fall Rally -- we are going to begin Epsom Sunday School Fall Rally Sept. 9 at Gerald and Nancy Hill's home with a corn roast, B.B.Q. and hayrides - all people invited. Lets start the Fall Sunday School with a strong attendance Sunday Sept. 10 at 11:15 a.m. a --- The first Sunday of each month the Sunday School will meet with the congregation. Other Sundays they will go directly to the Sunday School rooms. Vacation Bible School runs from Aug. 21 to Aug. 25 from 9:30 am. to 11:30 a.m. in Epsom Church. All children welcome. Paul and Shirley Baster spent the weekend visiting their friend the Garth Spensers. Mrs. Bill Guthrie of Audley was in charge of the church service at Utica on Sunday. She delivered a fine message. After the sevice, Mr. and Mrs. Guthrie, Melba McKay and Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Ireland were luncheon guests of Walter and Elva Kerry. Mr. and Mrs. Elden Evans at- tended the wedding of Anita's friend in Brockville and visited her parents Mr. and Mrs. Jag- gersma for the weekend. Barbara Evans, Beth Wilson and Anita Evans attended an opening evening, at Latcham Gallery in Stouffville where Lynne Evans has her "Mixed Media" pictures on display for two weeks. " Epsom Fall Rally planned for Sept. 9 Gary and Debbie Evans travell- ed to New Brunswick to join her family in celebrating her parents 25th wedding anniversary. Gord and Jill Postma, Faye and Keith Ashton went on a boat trip from Pefferlaw to Port Severnon Wed. and Thurs. They en- countered that severe storm that hit that area. The Deir family from Kingston visited last week with Mrs. Deir's parents Bill and Melba McKay. Thanks for the rain Blackstock and Area News by Joyce Kelly What a million dollar rain that this area received on Friday - cer- tainly will help many many crops and lawns but of course is too late for many crops. The very welcome change from the dread- ful heat and humidity came as well. Certainly Ontario climate can always be depended upon to be most changeable. On Saturday Blackstock United Church was the scene of two very beautiful weddings. : Mary Darlene McLean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Heber McLean became the bride of Paul Dwayne Kennedy. The bride's at- tendants were Bev Duke, Jane Kennedy and Tina Duke while the Best Man was Peter Kennedy and the ushers were Guy Kennedy and Murray Duke. The reception was held at the Flying Dutchman in Bowmanville. Elizabeth Christine Luke and William James Weir were mar- ried in a beautiful wedding. Elizabeth's attendants were Joyce Arney, Marilyn Green, Janet Weir, Diane Coates and Catherine Morris. Jim's Best Man was Russell Weir and the ushers were Warren Strong, Lawrence VanCamp, Kenneth Luke and Robert Luke. An unusual feature of this wedding for Blackstock was that the groom and best man, father of the bride and several of the guests were attired in Kilts. The reception was held at the Blackstock Recreational Centre. Best wishes are extended to both of these young couples. On Saturday evening, Anne and Peter Vanderheul were honoured on the occasion of their twenty- fifth wedding anniversary with a surprise family dinner at Emiel's Restaurant, Port Perry. Follow- ing the dinner which was attend- ed by parents and sisters of both bride and groom, as well as their daughter Julia & son Boyd, the group returned to the home of Anne's parents Cecil and Marie Gibson when a number of friends from various points joined the gathering to wish Anne and Pete well. Many lovely gifts were open- ed and the evening spent playing cards and visiting. Congratula- tions to Anne and Peter. Melody Dorrell of Lindsay and Annie Dorrell of Charlton enjoyed having dinner with their two uncles Dalton and Kathleen Dor- rell and Roger and Ethel Dorrell after which they all went to Pear- son International Airport to wish Annie well on her 7 week Junior Farmer exchange trip to Germany. Residents of this area especial- ly of Purple Hill will be sorry to learn of the passing of George Wright, husband of the late Doris Mahaffy. His funeral was held on Monday in Bowmanville. On Sunday morning a group of young bikers with their leader ar- rived in the village hoping to at- tend church here but both chur- ches had just concluded their ser- vices. These young people had left Michigan on July 25 and are travelling to Vermont. After a brief stop at the United Church they left travelling down the Old Scugog Road which they were go- ing to take to No. 2 which they will follow east towards their destination. On Sunday evening August 20 everyone is invited to a Communi- ty Hymn Sing and Ecuminical Service when the five churches of Cartwright will be represented. This event will take place at the Grandstand at the fairgrounds on August 20 at 7 p.m. Mark this date on your calendar and plan to at- tend this service of song and fellowship. All members of the Blackstock Agricultural Society are remind- ed of the regular Fair Board meeting at the Rec. Centre on this Thursday, August 10. Dora and Merlin Suggitt have recently returned home from a motor home trip to the Maritimes. This certainly seems to be the destination of many locals this year. Vera and Vernon Asselstine also have returned from a trip.to the East Coast. ; Her many friends in this area will be sorry to learn that Mrs. Madeline Brown fell last week and broke her hip.
