Final Game The Mites, sponsored by the Greenbank Garden Center went undefeated for the season with their victory in the championship game against Lucyk McPhee. This was Greenbanks 16th con- secutive win which ended 18-10. The game was close until the third inning when solid defence by Greenbank shut down the strong Lucyk McPhee hitting machine. Ryan McBride, Bill Lee, Jimmy Edwards, Andrew Donnelly and Ryan McQuade made some super assists and put-outs. Ryan McBride also scored 3 runs for Greenbank after reaching base with hard hits. Robert Sheehan, Stephanie and Robbie Watson, as well as Sean Fletcher, had key hits. Melissa Hooker, Bryon Brown and Casey Brown scored important runs after getting on base with singles. Strong team spirit and hustle by Jennifer Banting and Theresa Grocie helped in securing the championship for Greenbank for the second year in a row. With a full compliment of players the Port team looked strong right from the start. The first goal was scored by Michael Williams following some good defensive ball control by Mark Cosway, Jeff Fletcher and Christina Clark. Following the kick off, the Em- merson team gained control of the ball on a corner kick. Michael Williams took the kick and Ken- ny Mark one-timed the centering pass right into the net. Brad Strickert did his usual good job at midfield and went in on a close call solo effort. Stouff- ville ended the half with a goal. Craig Dale demonstrated some excellent footwork during the se- cond half. Stouffville attempted a couple of rushes and must be commended on their great spirit but the Emmerson team played great positional soccer working together as a unit. Shortly after the kickoff Michael Williams got a breakaway, picked his corner and fired one past the goalie. Nathan Short played his usual strong game and his efforts paid off with another goal for the Em- -merson team. Meghan Baxter and Jennifer Tufts both made that extra effort to be first to the ball. Stouffville thought they had a sure goal when goalie Brett Lawson came out of his net to cut the angle but he miraculously dove back to the goal line to punch the ball out. Nathan Short made a super pass and Mark Cosway fired one in. Mark Cosway scored his second goal of the evening on a good throw in front of the net. Michael Williams scored his third goal on a high kick that dropped in behind the goalie giving him a hat trick. Stouffville ended the game with a goal on a super effort but this loss marked the end of the play offs for them. Emmerson Insurance con- tinues the play off schedule this week and if the last few games have been any indication, they should do very well. Unfortunately the Van Camp Contracting team had to default their second game of the playoffs when only 4. players showed up. Aaron Chambers, Brad Johnson, Chris McWilliam and Shaun Mar- -tin played well but unfortunately . their efforts could not make up for the missing team-mates. The Lions Club was awarded the win with goals scored by Jason Whitworth and Chad Lance.
