Mrs. Wotten, who has another tomato weighing about two pounds, said the bigger tomatoes are often sweeter than the small ones. Dr. Dymond to speak at 144th anniversary by Mabel Cawker Nestleton Women's Institute Holds September Meeting On Wednesday, the regular meeting of Nestleton Branch was held at the home of Gwen Malcolm. President Neta Fish welcomed those present and read a poem "September," which was followed by the Ode and Collect. The minutes of the August meeting were approved as read by the secretary, and the treasurer's statement accepted. The Roll Call - An old remedy or custom, brought forth a variety of answers. Correspondence includ- ed notice of a District Executive meeting to be held at the home of district president, Mrs. Cathcart, Kendal, Sept. 11th; an invitation to Blackstock Institute, Sept. 6, at the Town Hall - 8:00 p.m. to hear Mr. Ron Martyn speak on - "Preparing your children for old age;" and a reminder that Nestleton Branch is invited to Solina Branch meeting on Oct. 11th - "Citizenship meeting' and "Re-cycling." The fall convention will be held Oct. 24 and 25th at the Royal York Hotel, Toronto, and two delegates were appointed. The Resolution to be voted on - "Request the re-consideration of Legislation banning the use of The Lord's Prayer" was given first reading by Branch Resolutions convener Norma Frew. The program for Tweedmuir History was presented by con- vener Gwen Malcolm, and the history was available for members to see. Two excellent tapes by Tommy Hunter were en- joyed - 'Old Doc Brown" and "The Touch of the Master Hand." The motto - "To make our lives with others blend, we first of all must be a friend" was capably given by Marg France. Some old time duties of a housewife as recorded by Mrs. Baker (born 1856) in the book entitled, "A place called Solina' was read by Norma Frew - "Making Soft Soap: Berry Picking: Bee: Bread Making: Butter Making: and Refrigeration in a Well Basket. Also - an article on "Days of Hired Help' - the hired man to help the farmer - and the hired girl to help the farmer's wife. Irene McKee read Leisure Time of a busy housewife, and the president clos- ed with a bit of humour. Lunch was served by the hostess assisted by Irene McKee, Norma Frew, and Marg France. The appreciation was extended by Rika Wygerde. Next meeting, Wed. Oct. 4th, at 1:30 p.m. with a Nestleton-Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker speaker on Japan...Doris Not- vngham, convener of Interna- tional Affairs as hostess. Nestleton Presbyterian Church Rev. Fred Swann conducted the church service at 11 a.m. with Joyce Taylor at the organ. Psalm 30 was read responsively, and Scripture reading was Psalm I - as the beginning of a series of studies on the book of Psalms. Next Sunday will be the 144th anniversary of Nestleton Presbyterian Church, and Dr. M. B. Dymond of Port Perry will be the guest speaker at 11 a.m., with music supplied by the Senior Citizens Choir, also, of Port Perry. A good attendance is expected. On Sunday, Sept. 24,at11a.m., Ballyduff will be holding their an- niversary service, and Nestleton service will be withdrawn. On Oct. 1st, the Sacrament of Holy Communion will be dispens- ed at Nestleton, with 11 a.m. service. Congratulations were extended to Miss Alison Scott, daughter of George and Shirley Scott, on graduating from her course at the University of Toronto. She will be leaving this week, for an 8 month term in France where she is con- Ehing her studies. Bon Voyage i! Family News Of Interest Mrs. Neta Fish, Blackstock, was a guest at the lovely evening wedding held September 1, 6 p.m. at the Whitby Yacht Club, when Andrew Kay of Oshawa, and Denise Fish of Sonya, exchanged marriage vows. Chaplain William Dugeja of Whitby, officiated at the colourful ceremony. The bride and her father Peter Fish, were chauffered in a beautiful 1927 Cadillac and when arriving at the Archway, they were met by a Scotsman playing the bag-pipes...who led the wed- ding procession down the aisle! The groom and his attendants were dressed in Scottish Kilts...and the bridesmaids in red dresses with flower girls in white satin trimmed with red The reception was held at 7 p.m. followed by a dance. Many guests were present from Scotland, including the groom's mother, for this lovely occasion. Best wishes to the happy couple. They will be living in Oshawa. Sam and Mabel Cawker of Scugog Pt. Rd., enjoyed a visit with brother Gord Cawker of Lindsay, one day this past week. They also, enjoyed a tempting dinner at the Bonfire Restaurant in Lindsay, on Friday evening, the guest of Russell and Ed Bowman, and needless to say...a wonderful visit was a highlight! Mrs. Neta Fish, "hosted" a bir- thday party at her home Sunday evening. Those celebrating were daughter Audrey Leishman and grandsons Michael and Jamie of Reaboro. Those present for this special party were husband Jim Leishman and son William, Calvin and Yvonne Holland and family, Blackstock. Birthday cake and lots of goodies.'.and many gifts as well, made'for an enjoyable occasion. Our very best wishes to the celebrants! Caesarea Community Church On Sunday, Sept. 10,11 a.m. at the friendly Caesarea Church, not as good an attendance as usual. Rev. Dr. Crawford was in the pulpit. The responsive reading was taken by Frank Arney and the Scripture lessons were read by George Kleinjan. Rev. Dr. Crawford brought an excellent, message to the congregation with theme 'Dishonest Christians." Text from Genesis 12:13 and Acts 5:4. Next Sunday Communion Service. Sunday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. will be Baptisms. The Sun- shine Club begins this Tuesday at 4 p.m. Nestleton United Church Lawrence and Gwen Malcolm were the greeters at the door on Sunday morning at 11:15 a.m. This was the opening of the Sun- day School. The S. School theme was "We Convenant Together" and a candle lighting ceremony was carried out by Rev. Dale Davis, with representation from the teachers - Chris Davis (super- intendent), Katie Mairs (S.S. Children) and Glenn Malcolm (congregation). A list of the Sun- day School teachers etc. will be in this column next week. Rev. Dale Davis spoke on "Who Are the Sentries" a fine message of interest to the congregation based on Scripture Luke 14:25-33 and Ezekiel 33:1-11, read by Claire Notman. A pleasing duet was rendered by Kay Notman and Janice MacKenzie, accom- panied by organist Gwen Malcolm. Offering received by Robert and Steven Mairs. Service closed with a fine hymn, Benedic- tion and Three Fold Amen. Notice: The U.C.W. General meeting will be held at the church at 7:30 p.m. on this coming Wednesday evening.
