| Durham Pony Club reaches top at last For the first time in the 10- year history of the Durham Pony Club, a team from the club has won the Eastern Canadian Prince Phillip Games Champi- onships. The victory is even sweeter because the five-member team has never advanced past the re- gional level. The Eastern Canadian Championships were held at the CNE on Aug 21. After a se- ries of 18 games, the Durham Pony Club won the event by de- feating the Ottawa Valley Pony Club by one point. The Caledon Pony Club also competed in the event. Prince Phillip Games are per- formed on ponies and develop the riders' skills and confi- dence. The games are restricted to riders 14-years-old and un- derasofJan. 1, 1989. Prince Phillip Games team members from the Durham Pony Club are Daina Codlin, Tanya Dervent, Keith Reid, Vicki Robinson and Heather Robinson. "The team members are all- round good kids," said pony club spokesperson Inge Jabusch. "They don't have time to get into trouble." The team practices once a week until they get close to a competition date, and then may practice four times a week. The competition will be held at the Royal Winter Fair Nov. 17-19. The winner will take home the Prince Phillip Cup. Other Pony Club news Local riders Karen Burt, To- sha Falkenham and Bobbi Leh- man of the Durham Pony Club, joined two riders from the Eglinton Pony Club to form a Central Ontario team for the Masters Games. The games are similar to the Prince Phillip Games but are for riders 15-21 years old. The team placed third in the Masters Games held at the CNE recently. Pony Club Jumping Champi- onships were also held on Au- gust 21 at the CNE. The Central Ontario team, encompassing Durham Pony Club, placed first in the open class, second in beginner and third in novice. Durham Pony Club member Donna Brewer placed fifth at the National Tetrathlon held in Ottawa August 10-11. The competition consists of four events. In the individual . events, Donna placed first in riding, sixth in running, elev- enth in shooting and seventh in swimming.
