President Linda McMillian welcomed the members and our guest and other visitors. Myrtle Snelgrove opened the meeting with a poem "The things we do not understand." Hymn 269 was sung. Ruby Dear- born read scripture from Hebrews 11 and Genesis 6. The of- fering was taken and we sang give thee but thine own. Myrtle in- troduced our guest speaker Ida Hurtig from Port Perry. Mrs. Hurtig gave us a very interesting talk of the life that she and her husband and smal) children had trying to survive then finally get- ting to Canada and how hard it was here at first but things did turn out well for everyone and all are very happy to have the freedom of Canada. Ruby read "My hands in God's"' then closed with hymn 252. Business meeting followed. We will not be taking part in the Apple Festival as the date has been changed to Oct. 7. The Hot Beef Supper will be Oct. 29th with 2 settings 5 and 6:30 p.m.. Tickets will be on sale very shortly. The ladies will be serving lunch after church on Sunday Sept. 24th, anniversary Sunday, when Rev. Bruce McDougall will be the guest speaker at 11:30 a.m.. Sympathy is extended to Mrs. Joyce Sproat and family in the passing of husband and father Robert. Visitors with Fred and Aileen Olsen were their aunt and uncle Muriel and Dave Pickard of Calgary. Ms. Janice LYLE has been promoted to the newly-created position of Middle Management Trainee. Ms. LYLE joined the Ontario Operation in February 1989 as a plant labourer. Ms. LYLE has a strong background in plant operations and possesses the skills necessary to advance into a Senior Management position with this company. Ms. LYLE will undergo an intensive academic and "*hands-on" training pro- gram for two years, leading to a Senior Management position.
