Sandy Ryrie who is co-ordinator of the Crime Stoppers program in this area, accepted a plaque on behalf of the Star on Sept. 18 while attending a Crime Stop- pers Conference in Albu- querque, New Mexico. The award was in a catego- ry for newspapers that appear weekly or twice weekly, and en- tries were received from all over North America, Australia and the United Kingdom. This is the second time the Port Perry Star has won a Crime Stoppers International award. Three years ago, the paper received a plaque for coverage of a Crime Stoppers segment on an un-solved murder in Dur- ham Region. Port Perry Star editor John B. McClelland said he was pleased to receive the award, adding that the Star has been and will continue to be a strong supporter of the Crime Stop- pers program in Durham Re- gion.
