10 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, September 26, 1989 Life's Like That by Julia Ashton (from page 8) the Port Perry Star. Now the essential part of this story is to know Mrs. Barr had the most incredible memory of anyone | knew. | don't know how she did it, but she knew every students' name at the high school. You could be the best student, never get called down to the office, and the first time you step foot in the office she knows your name. It was amaz- ing how she could do that. | think she even knew our home hone numbers without looking in the Jeleihiong directory. ; ow Foout our students numbers or our locker combina- ions Anyways, | received a card from her saying she knows (of course) who the English teacher was that | referred to in my very first column -- the teacher that questioned my ca- reer choice. Many people had asked me who it was, but only Mrs. Barr had the right answer. It will be our little secret. Only Brock Township report- ed no fatal accidents in 1988. Of the 22 fatalities, the report states that seven were drivers, nine were passengers, two were cyclists, two were motorcyclists and two were pedestrians. Durham Regional Police re- sponded to 9,133 collisions in 1988 -- an increase of 11 per cent. Of those accidents, 23.4 per cent happened at stop or yield signs, 36.6 per cent hap- pened at signalized intersec- tions, and 39.6 per cent hap- pened between intersections. Collision statistics in the re- port show that the month of De- cember recorded the highest number of collisions (382) with the lowest month being April (263). Nineteen per cent of all acci- dents occurred on Fridays, while only 12 per cent happened on Sundays. The report states that colli- gions are more apt to happen be- tween 4-6 p.m. , and least likely to ocrur between 4- 5 a.m. According to the data, the av- erage accident is a rear-end col- lision on a clear, dry Friday in December involving a male driver 25-34 years old. The most accidents at one in- tersection last year was at the corner of Regional Road 2 (Sim- coe Street) and Regional Road 28 (Rossland Road) in Oshawa.
