The Staff have returned refreshed from a summer holiday. Mrs. Corden cruised the Trent Canal with her family. Mr. Scott enjoyed a trip to Cape Cod and New York City. Mrs. Fockler studied at 1.0.S.E. then holidayed in Cuba with her family. Mrs. Watson had a wonderful trip through the northern States to Colorado then south to Las Vegas and Tucon. Mrs. Dorig and family visited relatives in Switzerland. Mr. Butt operated "Nobel Fence System' Co. Mrs. Bierness and her family enjoyed a trip to Vermont. New to our staff this year are Shirley Hunter, Secretary, Kirk Butt, Grade 4-5 teacher and Lorne Carson, Custodian. On Sept. 15, the grade 2-3 went on a walking tour of Mckay's, Willow Tree apple orchard in con- junction with an Apple Unit being explored in the classroom. On Sept. 18th the Kawartha Conservation Authorities were at Epsom PS. to do an Invertebrate Study with Mrs. Fockler's class. They discussed the identification of insect bodies and parts and the importance of insects in our ecological system. The children then tried to catch their own specimen and had the opportuni- ty to study them with a magnify- ing glass. A wonderful learning opportunity. Our first fire drill caused some excitement with the Kindergarten and- grade one classes. Our evacuation time was good, with ~ practice it will improve. The teachers were pleased with the interest shown at Curriculum night Sept. 20, when eighty of the children were represented. Sept. 25 is P.A. day. Teachers will at- tend workshops on music, library and an in-service on the new report cards. Doris Armstrong is being honoured at a special retirement dinner at Holiday Inn in Oshawa on Sept. 26. Doris was Custodian at Epsom for 42 years. Sept. 28th is the first School Ad- visory Committee Meeting (S.A.C.) at 1:30 in the library at Greenbank. All parents are welcome and baby sitting is available. This would be an oppor- tunity to discuss some Fund- Raising ideas and hear about any new issues that may arise with regard to education throughout the year. Oct. 13th is Picture Day. The Cross Country team is busy training for the meet on Oct. 12th at Dagmar. On Sat. Anne Tapscott was Bridesmaid for her friend Laurie O'Reilly of Port Perry. Norm and Betty Tapscott were guests at the wedding. An accident on Sun. morning sent Stella Asling to Toronto General Hospital were she is in Intensive Care and Donald Asling to Uxbridge Hospital. We sincere- ly hope to see them home soon. Their truck is a total wreck. Melba McKay visited her daughter Elspeth Dier and fami- ly at Kingston for the weekend.
