Marina boats hit by theives Durham Regional Police are investigating the thefts on three boats docked at the Port Perry Marina. On Saturday, police were called to the marina to investi- gate the theft of two speakers rom a Whitby man's boat. Later that same day, a Scu- gog Township woman reported to police that her boat's dash was damaged. An Oshawa man reported earlier in the week that a radio was stolen from his boat docked at the marina. Council approves spending $40,000 to finish Ash St. by Rob Streich On Monday, Scugog Coun- cil decided to approve the ex- penditure of $40,000 to com- lete all necessary work on Ash Btroet this fall, notwithstand- ingbad weather. Roads Superintendent, Ronn MacDonald appeared be- fore Council to discuss the pro- posed completion of roadwork on Ash Street , Port Perry, in- cluding sidewalks, curbs and gutters, storm sewers and pri- mary paving. Mr. MacDonald told Coun- cil that when the Region has completed their work the Mu- nicipal Roads crew will begin construction. However, the estimated cost for completion of the street, excluding the top coat of asphalt, is $120,000. The con- tractors have provided their $80,000, but the remaining sum was intended to come from the proposed Seniors' Develop- ment. Council asked Mr. Mac- Donald how much he could complete with the available funds, but appeared to intend completing the project next year anyway. Mayor Howard Hall said it was, "crazy to do half a job." He Vehicles hit Police are cautioning drivers to watch out for animals cross- ing roadways. "It's that time of year when animals get very active," Sgt. Ian Garvock said. Two single car accidents in- volving animals were reported to police during the last week. It would mean some additional cost to stop partway and start up again in 1990. Ward Two Councillor Mar- ilyn Pearce was optimistic that the money could be completely recouped when the seniors' pro- ject went ahead, or partially from further development on the street. Regional Councillor Yvonne Christie pointed out the need for sidewalks for the school children travelling along that route. In the vote, Councillors Al- lan Goreski and Don Cochrane opposed the motion to take the funds out of the reserve be- cause Council has recently re- fused to do this for other pro- jects in Scugog. Council directed Superin- tendent MacDonald to Com- plete the work on Ash Street, drawing on up to $40,000 from Municipal reserves. Mr. MacDonald reported that the Region is expected to complete water line and sewer construction by the last week of October, and the Ash Street work should be finalized in two weeks. deer, wolf On Sept. 28, Roderick Couch was westbound on Regional Road 6 when the vehicle he was driving struck a deer.
