30 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, October 3, 1989 Youth bowling a real hit in Port Perry by Nancy Anger Centennial Lanes, under the new management of Frank Ham- mond, opened its doors on September 23 to over 100 youth bowlers. Manager of Centennial Lanes, Carol Anthony deserves a great deal of the credit getting the league started. The Executive for the 1989-1990 season are: Program Director and Tournament Director: Bev Dawson and Rick Evans, Pee Wee Secretary: Dianne Bryars, Bantam Secretary: Ingrid Nor- wick, Junior/Senior Secretary: Kathy Tromans, Press Secretary: Nancy Anger. The Executive would like to thank all the kids and parents who turned out on the 23rd and for the patience shown by all. Being the opening day, total confusion abounded and the leagues were ~~ running behind. Thagks to all the parents who helped scorekeep and coach. There will not be any bowling on October 7th as it is Thanksgiv- ing weekend. On Sunday October 15 we will be holding our first tournament called the **Buddy Tournament." Times for bowling will be 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.. Please arrive earlier to register. For this Tour- nament the YBC bowler brings a non YBC member and they each will bowl 1 ', games. There will be badges awarded to the YBC bowler and certificates awarded to their 'buddy.' As there is no bowling October 7th and you would like to be in this tourna- ment please call Bev Dawson - 985-8843 or Rick Evans - 985-9392 to advise then that you will be at- tending. Toni Ollerton Malmont Atoms win 3 straight With the hockey season moving back into full swing, the Malmont Farms, Atom 1 team has put together an impressive 3-0 record in exhibition play. The team, assembled by head coach Bryce Jones, appears to be well balanced and possesses a lot of potential. It looks like they have many more wins ahead of them this season in representing our community. Port Perry's first win of the season came at the expense of Ajax. What looked to be a one sid- ed game in the early going with Port jumping into a quick lead, settled down to be a more even match up. Some pretty sharp goal tending by Port kept Ajax from presenting any real threat. The game ended with Port netting 6 goals against 2 for Ajax. Mal- mont's trio of goaltenders record- ed their first shut-out of the season. In their third exhibition game the team from Port travelled to nearby Uxbridge. After a scoreless first period, Uxbridge's lone goal came late in the second period. Port Perry got on the board midway through the third period and then after a lot of hard work and determination, got the go-ahead goal late in the game. Scoring in the three games was as follows: Tom Chambers - 2 goals, 3 assists; Tim Fitzpatrick - 2 goals, 3 assists; Daryl McEnaney - 2 goals; Kevin Gray - 1 goal, 2 assists; Darryl Moase - 1 goal, 1 assist; Rob Murhpy - 1 goal, 1 assist; and, Jeff Clarke - 1 goal. This year's line up on the Green Machine has Tom Chambers, Tim Fitzpatrick, Darryl Moase, Rob Murphy, Todd Parry, and Brad Shanley on the forward lines. Standing on the blue lines are Jeff Clarke, Mike Heasman, Brad Morton and Jason Logan. And, protecting the nets will be Bran- don Hammond, Daryl Holtby and Jamie Reid. Jeremy Gibson and Scott Hef- fern each scored 2 goals for Gord Lewis with Jamie Strickert, Matt Baxter and Matt Grills each scor- ing once. Matt Grills pitched in with 3 assists while Jeremy Gib- son added 2, Scott Heffern, Jamie Strickert and Matt Baxter each picked up one assist. Steve Elliott and Chris Jamieson replied for Lake Scugog with 1 goal and 1 assist each. Tripp Realty 5 Whitby Auto Wreckers 4 Dwayne Rombough led the way for Tripp with 3 goals. Troy Mar- tin pitched in with 1 goal while Noah Smith added a goal and an assist. Jay Fletcher also picked up an assist.
