_ py ey i a --iS i EA pe Couple celebrates 40th anniversary Blackstock and Area News by Joyce Kelly Thanksgiving weekend was a busy time in most households with families gathering, colour tours to enjoy the beautiful leaves and other events. Most of the univer- sity and college students were home for the long weekend. On Saturday evening Harold and Eileen McLaughlin celebrated their 40th wedding an- niversary with a dance at the Recreation Centre. One special part of the evening was the fact that the entire wedding party of forty years ago was in attendance enjoying the festivities. On Sun- day afternoon Harold and Eileen entertained at a family gathering when much visiting was enjoyed. Best wishes Eileen and Harold for many more happy years together. Helen and Stuart Dorrell of Charlton spent a few days in the area and attended the anniver- sary celebrations for Helen's sister Eileen and Harold. Also on Saturday evening former residents of Blackstock Larry and Mary Mackie of Manvers celebrated their twenty- fifth wedding anniversary with dance at the Manvers communi- ty Centre. Many friends and relatives from Blackstock attend- ed this happy event to wish this popular couple many happy returns. Mrs. Heber Snowden from Whitby spent the Thanksgiving weekend with her daughter Peggy and Ralph Larmer and en- joyed seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren on the holiday. Howard Bailey and his fiance Julie Wright spent the weekend with his parents Neil and Elaine Bailey and sister Tara. They en- joyed visiting friends and relatives in this area. Howard has Blood donor clinic been transferred from his work in Toronto to London. The Executive of the Nursery School met last week at the Nursery School. Sheila Burnett called the meeting to order. The progress of the school was review- ed. Ellen Beal reported that the tickets for the Hallowfest dance on October 28 are selling quickly. Call Ellen at 986-4502 soon if you wish to attend. The General Meeting will be held at the school on October 10 with Suzanna Blackburn speaking on Parent Burnout. There were 11 tables at the weekly card party with the follow- ing winners: Gladys Potts with a total of 87 as first; 2. Meta Swain, 3. Lorna Swain, 4. Les Taylor, 5. Carl Gimblett, 6. June Stubbs. Low - Teresa Berkers. Draws were won by Carl Gimblett, Muriel Butson, Clarence Masters, Ken Flint, and Harold Swain. Plans are well underway for the Octoberfest which will be held right here in Blackstock on Fri- day evening. The event begins at 5 p.m., when the German-style meal is started to be served, and continues throughout the night with dancing and entertainment. Leanne O'Donnell and Ashley of Kitchener spent the weekend with her parents Keith and Wilma Van Camp and attended her aunt and uncle's wedding anniversary. Her husband Jim was unable to attend. .Don't forget to mark Oct. 21 on your calendar for the third annual Blackstock Fiddle Contest which will be held on October 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Blackstock Recreation Center. Sympathy to the Lang family on the recent passing of Leanne's father Mr. Hugh Miller of Brooklin. Seagrave and Area News by Diane Cooke Hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving long weekend. Mariposa Ladies group will meet at Marilyn Blairs home on Wed. October 15 at 7:45 p.m. Ladies - wear a costume if you're in the mood! Robin Glade Estates womens group meets this month at the home of Ann Currie on Wed. Oct. 25, 8:00 p.m. Seagrave Brownies will meet as usual, Monday, October 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Seagrave Church. Girls are reminded to arrive dressed according to the weather, as rain or shine that evening is the 'obser- vation walk.' Sympathy to the family of the late Mrs. Gladys Scott who pass- ed away recently. Mrs. Scott was a former resident of Seagrave. There were memorial flowers in the church on Sunday. Also sympathy to the Somer- ville family on the recent passing of Betty's' grandmother Mrs. Graham. On Sunday Oct. 8th the Seagrave Church Service includ- ed the Baptism of Alexander James Elliot son of Robert & Gail Elliot. Alexander is grandson to Mrs. Jeanne and the late Jim Elliot formerly of Robin Glade Estates. Also the service on the 8th in- cluded eight choir chairs being donated by Ken Carruthers in memory of his parents Rexford and Annette Carruthers. The Seagrave Church Com- munity Outreach is holding a musical evening on Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m. The Emmanuel Pentecostal Church in Port Perry will be featured. Everyone in the com- munity is welcome to attend this excellent evening. Anyone in the community that is able is reminded the Port Perry Kinsmen and Red Cross are hosting a Blood Doner Clinic at the Port Perry High School Wed., Oct. 11 from 2 - 8 p.m. There will not be a service at the Seagrave Church this Sunday to allow the congregation to at- tend the Anniversary Service at Pinedale at 11:00.
