SO Council has no serious objections to large commercial development proposal just south of Greenbank The preliminary plans for a large commercial development Just south of Greenbank were unveiled at a public meeting Monday afternoon in the Town- ship council chambers. Gino Testa Construction of Stouffville has plans to build a commercial retail plaza of about 46,000 square feet, an indoor public storage building of 16,800 square feet, and a gas bar on land on the northwest corner of Highways 47 and 12. Mr. Testa told the public meeting and members of Town- SMITH-CORONA TYPEWRITERS Manual or Electric Ribbons for most makes. He said the types of busi- nesses will include a fruit mar- ket, restaurant, carpet sales outlet and a real estate office. There is presently a com- mercial building on the eight acre property. The land for this new pro- ject needs are-zoning. Several residents who live nearby attended the public meeting and voiced no objection to the planned development. Council made no decision on approval Monday, but there were no serious objections from councillors. Mayor Howard Hall com- mented "that is quite a project from Greenbank." One property owner who lives nearby said he would not be opposed to the development, Certificates D.J. The meeting will be held October 24 in the Prince Albert Community Hall, and is sched- uled to get underway at 8:00 PM. It should be of particular interest to area farmers as Ms. Burrack has been asked by the Federation to address the can- cellation of the Farm Property Tax Rebate, and other issues crucial to farming in Ontario. Also at this meeting, the Federation will be electing di- rectors for the coming year and delegates to the Ontario Feder- ation Convention to be held No- vember 27-29 at Skyline Air- port Hotel in Toronto. di ol FO wa: GU UN: i a; Su, GS; Ns 40; SN. Demanding that a farrner get a pit licence to do this is just one more impediment in the path of the farming indus- try. In coming to the defense of farmers on this issue, we would hasten to say that there should be some degree of control. Farmers should not be allowed to get into the com- mercial gravel business with trucks coming and going six days each week. And likewise, farmers hauling for their own use should be restricted to reasonable hours. But they should have the right to take some sand/ gravel from one area of the farm, haul it over a public road for use on another area of their land. In Mr. Morris' particular case, there is a bit of irony. The material which he has been forced to stop hauling, was being used mainly to build watering stations for his cattle along a small creek that forms parts of the head- quarters of the Nonquon River. With watering stations, he will then fence the creek area to prevent the cattle from having direct access to the creek, which in turn will prevent them from heeding na- ture's call in the creek water. But that's not the main issue here. Farmers more than ever before, need the right to farm, and that includes the right to haul a few loads of sand and/or gravel..
