That was the way Cecil Law explained to Township council Monday afternoon what Texplast Environmental Ltd. will be doing when it swings into full operation by the end of the year in the Reach Industrial Park west of Port Perry. Mr. Law and his business partner Don Smith were asked by council to attend Monday's meeting to clear up a bit of con- fusion about where the industry will be located. The confusion on the part of council came up two weeks ago when correspondence from the Environment Ministry listed the address of the plant as being North Street, Port Perry. Not so, said Mr. Law. The business will be located in the industrial park on Regional Road 8. The North Street ad- dress was a reference to the business from whom Textplast is leasing the land. Mr. Law told council the company will re-cycle wood, plastics and textiles; material that otherwise would have found its way into landfill sites. The company takes wooden pallets, grinds them down for use in the making of particle board. Scrap textiles are torn apart, baled, and then shipped out for re-use as textiles or as sound insulation in automo- biles, he said. Scrap plastic, mainly from the auto industry, is re-cycled - APPLES for SALE - by rendering it into pellet form where it can be blended for re- use with other plastics. Mr. Law said that about 98 per cent of material the compa- ny receives is re-cycled. The remainder, which non- hazardous, ends up in landfills. "We have no intention of handling any hazardous waste material," he told council. With the confusion over the address cleared up and the as- surance that no hazardous ma- terials would be handled by the plant, council was enthusiastic in its support for the industry. Mr. Law later told the Star the company would be operat- ing fully by the end of the year. Scugog supports Uxbridge request for traffic signals Scugog council has en- dorsed a request from Uxbridge Township that the Highways Ministry install traffic signals at the intersection of Highway 47 and Durham Region Road 23. Uxbridge council recently passed a resolution asking for the traffic signals at that inter- section. It has been the scene of nu- merous accidents in recent months, including one three weeks ago that claimed two lives.
