On Saturday night the girls played the Omemee-Emily Big M Courier team, coming away with a win, 13-1. Kyla McCrae played goalie for the first time, filling in for our ailing Sarah Coyne. In the first half of the game Deanna Dempsey displayed her skills netting two goals, Heather Lally, one goal, and Vicki Stain- ton gave us three more. Leea Kinunnen added to the game with another goal. At half time the players and spectators saw a cloud of smoke coming from the Port fan section. Everyone joined in singing 'Hap- py Birthday' to a very surprised Marjorie Dempsey as Dale Clouthier presented to Marjorie, on behalf of the team and parents, a 40th birthday cake, with all candles glowing! Now, back to the game. In the second half Leea scored again and Vicki displayed her skills net- ting the team with another two goals. Jean helped out with another goal as did Deanna and Lisa. Assists went to Leea, Jean, Lisa, Heather and Deanna. After the game the players and fans en- joyed a piece of Marjorie's birth- day cake. We have three "new" girls to the team, namely, Julie Ball, Marci Zuly and Jenna Norton. These three girls have played strong defence for the team and this is their first year ever for ringette. On Sunday the team travelled to Woodville and that's where we \ PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 7, 1989 -- 29 were really put to the test. The girls all played hard but Wood- ville simply was a better team defeating our girls 8 - 4. Our regular goalie, Sarah Coyne, was back in net again and did a great job warding off many attacks from the Woodville team. Scoring for the team were Jean, Deanna, Vicki and Leea. Aman- da Clouthier, Marci, Julie and Jenna all played a strong game of defence. Kyla and Lisa played a strong game as forwards, the fans just love to see all this action! We Tweens win then lose hope Heather Lally feels better after a bout with a flu bug. The Pineridge Sports Tweens "C"" team is really pulling" together under the coaching of Dan Lally and his assistant, Rick Webb. Nancy Coyne is their trainer and Wendy Lally is the team's manager. Novice XL Eagles double up Ajax 8-4 The new sponsor of the Port Perry Novice Ringette team, the XL, should be honored to be spon- soring a team with such en- thusiasm, competitiveness and sportsmanship. These qualities are what makes watching this team so much fun. On Sunday Nov. 5, the XL Eagles went to Ajax and defeated the Ajax team 8-4 in a fast moving competitive game. This win makes 2 wins and 1 loss for the Eagles. The Ajax team kept our goalie, Jennifer Hammond on her toes throughout the game but Jennifer played the best game ever and the Ajax team could not get too many by her. Excellent saves Jennifer, you're etn better by the game, Thanks to the strong efforts of Jennifer Donnelly, Melissa Hooker, Diane Vanderligt and Jenny Lane, the onslaught of shots on the Ajax goalie just never quit. Our goals were scored by Jen- ny Lane with one, Alechia Cracknell and Laura Hooker with two goals each and to Janine Hammond with her first hat trick of this season, all the hard work is paying off. Two of these goals were short handed goals, this team just never gives up. The assists go out to Jennifer Elliot, Diane Vanderligt Janine Hammond and Brooke Shanley with one each, good passing girls, you should practise at 6:30 a.m. more often. But if it wasn't for the hard work and good passing of the ring from our own end by Pam Hiltz, Bonni-Jo Norton, Janna Senyk and Brooke Shanley we would never have had the opportunities to score any goals at all.
