by Ilean Pugh and Peggy Bredin Last week, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Midgley attended a dinner in Toronto where Tom was honoured for 25 years with the Ministry of Correctional Services and accep- tance into the Prov. of Ontario's Quarter Century Club. On Friday, Nov. 3rd, their daughter, Michelle Midgley was home from Queen's University to attend Commence- ment Exercises at Port Perry High School and accept her On- tario Scholar Scholarship. She was also recipient of the Port Perry Canadian Legion Ladies' Auxiliary Scholarship for second highest standing at P.P.H.S., The Kinsmen Club Bursary for Academics, and the Port Perry Travel Award from Marlin Travel for Geography. Prince Albert is also very pro- ud of Mark McMillan who not on- ly recieved an Ontario Scholar- I.C. students enjoy trip to opera Aida by Neil Mueller The Grade seven and eights from Immaculate Conception School went to see an opera per- formance of AIDA at the SkyDome on Wednesday, October 25. Due to arrangements made by our teachers and the Toronto Star the fee to be admitted into the Skydome to see a world class opera was only $8.00 including the bus. Aida was about an Egyptian soldier named Rademes who was in love with an Ethiopean slave named Aida. Although we were disappointed that they didn't per- form the final act for us, we en- joyed immensely what we did see. This was the first introduction for many of the students to see a bit of the world of opera. In the topic of sports, volleyball is the season now. Everybody's hoping to be on the school team. Our senior girls acted as host to the senior girls from S.A. Cawker School the other night. Both teams played volleyball well and had a lot of fun too. We wish the Cawker team well in their tourna- ment (which will be over by the time this article goes to press). On Friday the twenty-seventh, the primary classes were treated to a special presentation by The Little Red Theatre Group from Toronto, who came to our gym to do songs, poetry and dance entitl- ed '"Hallowe'en Pranks." It must have been a lot of fun because we could hear many ghostly sounds coming from the gym. On Tuesday the thirty-first (Hallowe'en), the school crowded into the gym to have our Hallowe'en assembly. The Grade fives made a play about how dangerous it is to eat candy or ap- ples if they are not checked for razors or anything that could hurt NO or kill you in some way. On stage some of the Grade 6 girls danced to a Milli/Vanilli song called "Don't Forget my Number," and it was done very well. Also Stephanie Tufts danced solo to the song "If I Could Turn Back Time," and she danced great. Then we were in the mood for Hallowe'en as we went home on the bus. : Mrs. Touchie's class has now moved from inside the building to the outside. She is now teaching the same class but in a new por- table on the southwest side of the school yard closest to the church parking lot. Moving to the new portable was very time consum- ing. The kids said "it's different but they like it." Mr. Burke's class is very busy - right now. They will soon be com- pleting their unit on insects. We have seen them out in the yard with pill bottles running around looking at the ground and now we know what they were doing. In reading they are studying a visual novel called "Code Name Icarus." It must be nice to watch T.V. during the afternoon and not get harped at, for being a couch potato. I hope you all had a good Hallowe'en (I know I did). So un- til next time. Goodbye!
