ro Most homeowners have a lot of money invested in their personal possessions and property. In order to protect their investment, homeowners should buy a home insurance policy. Home insurance provides a service that protects through such misfortunes as fire, or theft. It can also protect you from financial loss arising out of bodily in- juries to others and damage to their property. This package is designed for owners of dwellings against loss or damage by fire, loss or damage caused by explo- sion, plus theft and personal liability. One premium is paid for the overall coverage. Additional coverage for cottages, boats, outboard motors, jewellery and other valuables may be added for an additional premium. The policy insures the personal property of all relatives living in the household, including the your investment with wife or husband, and the property of any persons under 21 who are in the care of the policyholder. While most insurance companies take a liberal view of un- married couples living together; to avoid problems it's best to have each person named as insured in the policy. Your policy also covers the personal proper- ty of others (except roomers or boarders). Of course, certain perils are not insured in home in- surance policies; such as war, injury caused hy you, wear and tear. In some policies, however, you can get additional insurance coverage against mysterious disappearance of personal property, or breakage of fragile articles. Make sure if your dwell- ing is going to be vacant (empty) you inform the in- surance company within 30 days of the vacancy. Van- dalism and malicious acts coverage are usually Insurance discontinued for obvious reasons. If your dwelling is unoccupied (it still contains household goods, no-one is living in it, but there is an intent to return), there is no coverage for damage caus- ed by freezing after four days, unless arrangements have been made during the usual heating season to have a competent person maintain the heating.
