The decision by Port Perry Minor Hockey to put together a Midget 2 travelling team means the Bantam House League will be reduced from six to five teams, Minor Hockey President Larry Lee said recently. Mr. Lee said he expects all the paper work involved in icing the new Midget team will be cleared away in the next week to ten days, and the re-vamping of the Bantam House League will take place at that time. More than 20 Midget age (16-17 years) players have been playing on Bantam House League teams since the start of this season, and Mr. Lee said he expects that those with high level skills will be joining the new Midget 2 squad. However, he noted that if a player opts not to join the Mid- get 2 team, that player can con- jinne to play Bantam House Port Perry has always had a Midget 2 team, but at the start of this season, the team was dropped because coaching staff Enid not be found, said Mr. "That meant that all Mia- get-age players who did not - make the roster of the Midget A club coached by Doug Scott were placed in the Bantam House League. The formation of the Mid- get B team started to get off the ground about a week ago when Steve Thompson and Harvey Williams indicated a willing- ness to coach the team, and they have given Minor Hockey a commitment to coach the team ~again next season. Mr. Lee said the Minor Hockey executive welcomes these moves as there had been concerns about Midget players in the Bantam House Leagues. "The stronger Midget player should be on a Midget rep team," he said. The Midget 2 team most likely will end up playing home games on Wednesday evening in a time slot that has been used for a Bantam HL game. And the newly formed team will be sponsored by Canadian Tire. Along with players now in the Bantam HL, the new Mid- get 2 squad will likely get three or four from the Midget A team and perhaps two or three who currently are not playing hock- ey. In other Minor Hockey news, the executive is waiting for official details from the SS og re-vamped Bantam H.L. OMHA about a new "rating sys- tem" for all the OMHA (travel- - ling teams) in the organization. According to Mr. Lee, the organization has heard verbally that the OMHA has plans to "rate" the teams in December and some could end up with higher or lower "ratings" than the BB designation OMHA has assigned to the overall Port Perry organization. The "ratings" apparently will be based on how well (or poorly)each rep team is doing. It could mean, for example, that some Port Perry rep teams could be rated up to A designa- tions for OMHA playdowns, while others could be rated down to Bor even lower. This is the first year the OMHA has decided to rate teams on an individual basis.
