No zip in the Bantams at C The Port Perry Goreski Insula- tion Bantam No.1's sponsored by Ken and Diane Goreski of Goreski Insulation sure were on a high note, and had a winning attitude after they won the championship at their home tournament last weekend and wanted to win another tournament as they strolled into the Barn in Cobourg over the Nov. 17,18,19, weekend. Port's first match up was played in the "Barn" if you wish, as Port got dressed to meet up with Port Hope, a team the In- sulators will meet later in the league. Rick (Wamsley) Hutchinson got the call between the pipes and For all your NEW or USED CAR NEEDS with excellent service, contact sales rep., JEFF KROONENBERG played pretty well dispite the tie 2-2. Good game Ricky. Port's squad got rolling as they were on a powerplay. Parry and the Cochrane brothers got together on this play as Parry passed to J. Cochrane who pass- ed it back to G. Cochrane who folks, I'll tell, buldged the twine upstairs where they keep the Fig Newtons, what a shot, beauty! The game was tied at one a piece. Then 4 minutes later it was another one of Port's offensive defensemen getting the job done. Empringham ripped a shot that deflected 15 feet up in the air and it came to Laird who shovelled it into the slot where Britknell step- PHILP PONTIAC BUICK LIMITED 985-8474 or [res.) 985-3925 Klean Sweep 3 CHIMNEY SERVICE SERVING DURHAM REGION * dustless, efficient chimney cleaning * emergency service * blocked flues cleared [) * go with the experts : OUR STAFF IS TRAINED & CERTIFIED SINCE 1978 id i PORT PERRY FULL TIME PROFESSIONAL SWEEPS 985-3111 osuawn 433-4111 Toro CR-20 * Two-year limited warranty. Port was now in the driver's seat, but Port Hope had to score once more 3 minutes later. The game was tied 2-2 and there was no scoring in the 3rd frame. Port had picked up 1.5 points as they won the second period. Hope also picked up 1.5 points. Team scored points for winning periods (1 point) and winning the game (1 point). Teams could win up to (4 points). Gavin Cochrane was named the MVP in this game and picked up a well deserved trophy. Nice work big fella, from the squad. Port's next match was the next day at 11:15 a.m. Saturday as they played the rugged Alliston team. Was this a mouth-watering match folks. As both teams came out flying to slug it out with each other. Port's plan was the same as in game 1 but the penalties kill- ed us once again. The team took 3 unsportsmanlike penalties, and you can't win hockey games when you do this, as Alliston beat Port 3-1, Alliston was the first to get on the board as they scored at the 6:58 mark. Port wanted to score and get on the board and they did as Logan was the hero on the powerplay. Bricknell passed to G. Cochrane who ripped one wide. The puck came off the backstop to Logan who had a wide open net and made no mistake. Alliston scored two more in the second and third to put a wrap on things as Port lost a brutal game 3-1. The bright spot in this game was the play of Logan as he pick- ed up the MVP. Nice work Logo. Bad news was that Bricknell stretched his knee and couldn't play against Napanee. Port now had to play the Knee- Knappers of Napanee, was this a piping hot match folks. Before the game it was time to get together and talk it over as a team and say what you thought was good and bad about what has happened so far over the year. The main con- cerns were leadership, penalties, and dump and chase. The goal scorers were Logan, Laird, Pashley, Empringham and Parry (2). The assists went to Vanderlight, Vanderslagt (2), McBride (2), Laird (2), Logan (2) and Moase (2). PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 21, 1989 -- 29 Rick Hutchyson got the MVP as he had a shut-out on only 8 shots. Vanderlight had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance after a neck injury but is doing fine folks, no need to worry. The hitting department was tremendous in this game as players like J. Cochrane, Pashley, Parry and McBride along with the defense hammered, thumped, decked and lowered the boom on Napanee.
