Young man airlifted to Sunnybrook after crash A 21 year old Peterborough man had to be air-lifted to Sun- nybrook Hospital by helicopter after the truck he was driving crashed into the bush on Scugog Island Friday night. Regional Police said Mi- chael Dingler suffered severe head and internal injuries in the crash just before midnight and his condition is critical. Phil Carty, 23, of Scugog Is- land, a passenger in the truck suffered a broken legin the acci- dent. } Police said the driver was westbound on Concession 11, west of the Island Road. The. truck left the road - where the Concession ends and wound up some 150 feet in the bush. As of Monday, the accident was still being investigated by Regional Police. Scugog Community Care laun- ched its annual fundraising drive this week. * "We must raise 30 percent of our budget within our own com- munity," Barb Bracken, Ad- visory Committee Chairperson, said. "Our fundraising goal is $6200, which will help us meet the needs of the over three hundred people in Scugog who participate in our programs. The Township of Scugog provided us with a grant increase this year to reflect the growing number of people requir- ing help. , The Ministry of Community and Social Services funds 70 percent of our Home Support Services budget. Although we again re- quested expansion of our budget to meet increasing needs the Ministry approved a 5 percent in- crease which doesn't come close to meeting those needs. We are not funded by United Way so we count on local organizations and businesses to help us serve those who want to remain in their home and community as long as possible." Scugog Community Care which is a local branch of the Durham Region Community Care Associa- tion is one of the oldest multi- service Home Support programs in the province. These programs include Meals on Wheels, Transportation, Visiting, Home Maintenance, Home Help, Telephone Assurance, Income Tax, Yardwork, Sitting, Foot Care, Luncheon 'Date, Informa- tion and Referral and COPE.
