Grand- mothers, that's who, said Mo- nique Howat, answering her own question. Mrs. Howat, a Nestleton mother of three (though not a grandmother yet) is in the pro- cess of setting up "Grandma's Company," a three-in-one do- mestic service in Scugog, em- ploying grandmothers. And so far, she told the Star in an interview last week, the response has been positive from both grandmothers anxious to work a few hours each week, and from potential clients who need casual baby-sitting, cook- ing and light housework. "A lot my friends work full time and they tell me the tough- est part of the day is when they get home from work at 5:00 o'clock, usually tired, and then have to get the evening meal go- ing, spend time with the chil- dren and start the housework. It's can be hectic," said Mrs. Howat. It is this high stress time of each day (morning or evening) when working families may find the grandmothers domes- tic help most beneficial, she ex- plained. But the hours that one of the grandmothers will work is very flexible. It also includes a weekend arrangment (if the parents want to get away for some time together) in which a grandmother will work from 5:00 PM Friday to 5:00 PM Sun- day, looking after the children, preparing meals and getting the light housework done. Mrs. Howat said she has about 15 grandmothers who have expressed an interest in working. One is Teresa Berkers of Caesarea. She worked for a housekeeping service in Ajax before moving to Scugog a couple of years ago. And she jumped at the chance to go to work for Grand- ma's Company. "I was getting bored sitting around the house. I need some- thing to do and earning some ex- tra money won't hurt, either," iw she said. Mrs. Howat said some of the "grannies" who are regis- tered really don't need the mon- ey, but like the chance to go to (Turn to page 13) Monique Howat (left) and one her "grannies" Teresea Berkers of Caesarea. Mrs. Howat has formed Grandma's Company in Scugog Township which provides housekeep- ing, cooking and baby sitting by grandmothers. Mrs. Howat said so far reponse from clients has been positive and from grandmothers willing to work.
