Skip Scott Howey ( left) and his team of Dave Roth, Glen James and Bob Brunton got the curling season off to a quick start Saturday as they had little trouble winning the annual Grey Cup Splel at the Port Perry Curling Clu and three wins to take the first mens bonsplel at the b. Scott and the boys ran up 44 points club this seasons. Turtles had lead feet For the Goreski Insulation Ban- tam No. 1 "Turtles" the game against Napanee in the Tourna- ment of November 18 was a con- frontation the team will remember for a couple of weeks or even months. . It probably was their best game of the year thus far according to coach Todd Wilbur and they OHA Jr. 'C' HOCKEY Sunday, December 3rd wanted to continue with a team attitude as Lindsay was their op- position last Monday night. Mr. Laird and Mr. Durham got to watch the game from the gon- dola as Laird got into a little tiff over the weekend. The result was unfortunate for Laird but we're sure he had the best seat in house, we'll put money on that. > i & Cobourg Cougars Port Perry MoJacks VS SCUGOG ARENA -- Faceoff: 7:30 PM 313 ALBERT ST. OSHAWA L1H 481 x nk Tixon FUEL OIL HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING SALES & SERVICE mmm Sipco 4 TiXon 728-5138, 723-4663 'Shawn (Bunny-Hextall) Laroc- que got the call to play around the iron posts and was very strenuous throughout the game, we'll tell ya he looked like Ronnie as he pick- ed up a penalty for roughing. He and the Lindsay captain went at it in a steel cage match, was coach Wilbur going bananas! Port had an extra skater in this game as left winger Jeff Card of the farm team came up and played well for the Insulators. We appreciate your assistance Cardy! Now on with the game. Lindsay was the first to score in this game as Port's arsenal wasn't loaded. There wasn't any scoring after this as Port came out in second frame thinking to saturate the goal of Lindsay. . Port's plan got going 2 minutes in as Dee popped one home. Assisting on this goal were G. Cochrane and Traynor. Coach Wilbur's game 1s the dump and chase and that was totally redundant in this game as Port's forechecking just wasn't clicking. We'll tell ya, they look- ed like the leafs. It was then time for a break as they flooded the ice between the second and third. Port came out and played militant and at the 7:35 mark of the third it was the Dee-ster doing it again. This was a breakaway goal and to top it all off it was short-handed. That's what we like to see guys! Lovely! Assisting were Moase and Pashley as one of the two fed Empringham. Lindsay scored once more with "1:30 to go, the game ended up 2-2. Even though Port did not win, they still know they can play hockey with the best of them. They had ample opportunities with the last seconds of the game as Parry almost connected once or twice. Speaking of Parry, he had a very eccentric happening as his alluminum stick got bent in half. We know sports fans, you're say- ing baloney, but it happened. It reminded Parry of the time he snapped his 4-iron as he duckhooked one 0O.B., was he mad! Coach Wilbur wasn't happy with the skating aspect of the game, as the forechecking stunk, but he'll take the tie even though the "Turtles" should have con- quered Lindsay. NAYS YOEHY THY Ty PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 28, 1989 -- 27 Petites find Sunday November 26 saw the Port Perry Petites travelling to Ennismore for a noon game. Ever increasing team togetherness and skills were evi- dent with the Bruton's 1.D.A. Petites winning 10-7 against the Ennismore team. A tight first five minutes was see-saw with many shots on each teams goalie. Ennismore set the pace with the first goal while Port Perry retaliated 15 seconds later. Alternate team scoring went on till just over 3 minutes left and Port Perry took off to score 3 more goals to have a comfortable lead at the end of the first period: 6 - 3. Both teams were strong in skating and stick handling skills to make for a very fast paced game. Less than 30 seconds into the se- cond period saw Port Perry scor- ing with excellent passing connec- tions from Kara Vander Slagt and Dana Hooker to Brandy Harris. Again Ennismore came back scoring and trying to close the score between the two teams. Defence players from Port Perry ® Ennismore to their liking did some fierce checking in their own end to take the ring from the oppositions threatening forward and making sure passes to their teammates. Good work Katie Senyk, Melissa Dowson, Lee-anne Wakeford, Jenny Storms, Natasha . Burgess, Melissa Pereman and Sheila Ranger. Netting points were Brandy: 2 goals, 1 assist; Lynda: 1 goal; 2 assists; Dana: 5 assists; Mandy: 1 goal, 1 assist; Michele: 1 assist; Joan: 4 goals; Lea-anne: 2 assists; Kara: 2 goals, 2 assists; Cindy: 3 assists; Natasha: 1 assist; Melissa P.: 1 assist. Shona Moase, goalie for the Petites today, had her work cut out for her. Being hot between the pipes, deflecting shot after shot and making key tosses to her teammates showed up her quick reflex capabilities which con- tributed to holding down the op- positions score. December 2 will see Port Perry being home team to visitors from Lindsay at 5:30 p.m..
