TN N------ 38 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 28, 1989 Brownies learn about fire safety by Heather McCrae A ceremony can be a time of celebration, a time for sharing our thoughts and feelings, a ritual, a recognition of challenge completed, or a time for reflec- tion. It can be solemn, it can be serious but it can also be a good deal of fun. Within Guiding we have many ceremonies. The familiar Brownie Ring and the Guide.-Horseshoe are ceremonies. So too are enrolments, fly-ups and cord presentations. Enrolment night for the First Seagrave Brownies is December 11. The girls will be working on their Jester badge and putting on a Raggedy Ann and Andy skit. Sounds like a lot of fun plus a Gingerbread raffle will be held with all monies going to Operation Scugog. The Fourth Port Perry Brownies, under the leadership of Brown Owl Denna Howsam, Tawny Owl Lori Goreski and Grey Owl Cherrie Evans have been active in their program work. A Tweenie is a little girl - who is 'tween not being a brownie and being a brownie. Congratula- tions is extended to these tweenies of the Fourth Port Perry - Brownies who officially became brownies at their enrolment night on Monday, November 20th, namely; Breana Beale, Chery- Anne Goreski, Melinda MacPher- son, Kristen Mark, Patricia Peter, Adrianna Pilkington, Grace Ranieri and Lindsay Spielman. These girls have already started on their badges and challenges. On Monday night the brownies met with firefighter Paul Dick who taught the girls * An enrolment ceremony was held for 13 Tweenies who became Brownies on Wednesday at the Scout Hall. A special enrolment ceremony was held Nov. 22 at the Kinsmen Hall where thirteen tweenies became brownies within the Third Port Perry Brownie Pack. Con- gratulations are extended to Rhea Baxter, Melanie Dick, Amy Lap- palainen, Jodi May, Tiffany McClean, Dawn McGuckan, Melissa Meeking, Laura Parkin- son, Kirsty Robertson, Kasey Shinn, Tasha Stephenson, Holly Taylor and Sarah Verschuuren. Three new guides or tender- foots "flew up" to the First Port Perry Guides at a special ceremony on Monday, November 20. Congratulations is extended to Jeanette Wassink, Lesley Donnel- ly and Kasey Briley. While serv- ing food and beverages to their guests they were also working on their Hostess badge. These girls certainly know how to combine business with pleasure! These girls are visiting the nursing home and villa on Monday, December 4 to entertain and sing Christmas carols to the staff and residents. Also, the girls are sup- eT - vb a iit bons #4 be 2s och cad seal lS plying a Christmas dinner to a needy family through Operation Scugog. This worthwhile venture is a part of their service to the Community. The Second Port Perry Guides are very fortunate to have two new junior leaders, namely pathfinders Annette Stainton and Jessica Blake. Welcome to the pack Annette and Jessica. The First Port Perry Pathfinders held their enrolment on October 4, 1989 enrolling six new members in the unit, name- ly; Tracy Stainton, Courtney: Williamson, Amanda Clouthier, Elizabeth Scallon, Jodi Hunter and Tara Nolan. At this time we'd like to welcome Nicole Hockley to the Pathfinders. Guiding is something brand new to Nicole and she is being enrolled in a special ceremony on November 29. This group of fourteen pathfinders is very active. They've been collecting for the food bank, participating in the Big Apple Festival Bake Sale and helped at the recent Blood Donor Clinic at Port Perry High School. The girls attended, as a group, the current production of Anne Bon- ney on November 16. Pathfinder Sarah Brown has completed her pathfinder program and is now awaiting that prestigious Canada Cord ceremony. Guiding is a game but in the world of guiding there should be no "winners" or 'losers' as society labels them. All our girls should be winners in what they learn from their association with the Guiding movement. Dust your dancing shoes 4 " 1 > AFTERNOON Ey ; : , ge?
