II ey I UN NU NT: William Archie Farmer passed away November 1, 1989 at the Oshawa General Hospital in his 78th year. He was born August 7, 1912 in Port Perry. Times were different then, horse and buggy and bicycles were the main mode of transpor- tation. The motor car was just emerging, hard work coupled with the simple things of life were prevalent. Archie grew up with a brother John and two sisters Ann and Marion. His father Samuel was the publisher of the Port Perry Star and the author of On The Shores of Scugog. Both his parents came from The British Isles. Archie married during the depression and moved to Tim- mins with his wife Beth and his first born, where he worked in the 42 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 28, 1989 Former Port Star employee, Archie Farmer mines as a security guard, am- bulance driver and a miner. During these years Archie and Beth were blessed with five more children. When his father passed away in the late 40's he came home to Port Perry and spent the next few years working at the Port Perry Star. He became a member of the Lions Club at this time and he was a faithful member for 39 years. In these 30 some years he deriv- ed much pleasure in playing San- ta Claus for the children of Port Perry. Beth, his first wife passed away in 1953 leaving him with a family of six children. Times were tough during those years, but the family stayed together. In 1957 Archie married Eileen Hewitt. Van Camp: Grandchildren were the apple Norma Winnifred (Malcolm) Van Camp passed away sudden- ly, the result of a heart attack while on vacation at Ephrata, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Norma was born in Abbey, Saskatchewan on May 2, 1931, daughter of Norman and Win- nifred Malcolm. Following her mother's death in 1940 the family moved to Ontario where she com- pleted her education. Prior to her marriage she was employed by Canada Life Insurance in Toronto. : Norma married Merrill Wright . 4 Van Camp on September 12, 1953 when they moved to the home farm southwest of Blackstock, farming there until moving to the village in 1987. They raised three children- - Dale, Marie and Valerie. Norma created a happy and loving home where family and friends were always welcome. A warm and caring per- ; son by nature, many enjoyed her fine table and generous hospitali- ty for she acknowledged every special occasion with a celebration. As a member of Blackstock United Church she sang in the church choir and taught Sunday School for -some years. Throughout her married life Nor- ma was an active and willing worker in the community. She was a member of the U.C.W. and 0.N.O. Club, holding many dif- ferent offices in each. She possessed a great exuberance for life and people, but above all, she loved little children making her a Alymer Albert Cawker, after a lengthy illness, passed away peacefully at Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay, on Sunday, November 19, 1989. Albert was born May 24, 1914 in Port Perry. His parents were the late Alymer Bolton Cawker and Iona Orchard. After working for Canada Packers for several years in Pro- duction and in Sales, Albert returned to Port Perry to enter in- to partnership with his father in the butcher business, founded by his grandfather, Samuel T. Cawker. He retired in 1973, clos- ing the family business after more than a century of operation in Port Perry. "A.B." maintained a lifelong in- terest in his home-town communi- ty. An avid hockey player in his early years, he also served as chairman of the school board. He was a member of Fidelity Lodge, AF. & AM. her eye hg ¥ d y % 3 % i Fi i 71 ] very special grandmother to -Her ---grandchildren- however were the "apple of her many. eye" and shie loved their frequent - visits. "Lalla's" house was "full of wow"' for all! Left to mourn her passing are - her husband Merrill, son Dale and his wife Janet of Blackstock, her daughter Marie and husband Robert Attfield of Pickering and her daughter Valerie at home. She is also survived by her brother Glenn Malcolm of Ed- -monton, Alberta and five much loved grandchildren - Jamie, Mark and Scott Attfield and Mary and Michael Van Camp: Funeral services were held from the Blackstock United Church on June 28th, 1989 with the Rev. Dale Davis officiating. Pallbearers were Jay Van Camp, Dennis Werry, Barry Van Camp, \ Jim O-Donnell, Lawrence Van Camp and Harvey Malcolm. Alymer Albert Cawker In 1941, he married Vivien Elaine Wallace who survives him with their three children, Joel of Vancouver; Daniel of Port Perry and Bonnie of Wyebridge and four grandchildren; Ryan, Lindsay, Adam and Lisa. He is also surviv- ed by two sisters; Jean Pearce, Orangeville and Betty Cawker of Dunsford and two brothers; William of Mata mata, New Zealand and John of Don Mills. After retirement, Albert and Vi- vien moved to Bobcaygeon spen- ding summers at their home there and winters at their home in Cape Canaveral, Florida. A funeral service was held at the Wagg Funeral Home in Port Perry on Wednesday, November 22, at 2:30 p.m., to be followed by cremation and Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery in Prince Albert, Rev. R. LePage officiated. The many floral arrangements and memorial donations were gratefully appreciated. Archie started a new life with an additional three children from his new bride, life went on. The Port Perry Star was sold, the children grew up and Eileen & Ar- chie moved on to Mississauga. He remained in the printing trade for many more years and was also still devoted to the Lions Club. He retired and moved to Oshawa whe. he spent his remaining years. Archie will be sadly missed by all his family. A funeral service was held at the Wagg Funeral Home in Port Perry on Saturday, November 4, 1989. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery. Rev. D. Tansley officiated. Dessert evening on November 30 The Christmas 'Dessert Even- ing" of the Port Perry Area Chris- tian Women's Club is scheauied for Thursday, November 30, at 7:30 pm. - 9:30 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge on Queen Street. The Christian Women's Club 1s inter-church and non-sectarian with 2200 groups across Canada, the U.S.A. and around the world. There is a special feature of cur- rent interest a musical presenta- tion and an out-of-town guest speaker each month, yet there are no membership or dues and all women of the community are welcome. This month for our special Christmas feature we have "Oh, You Beautiful Doll" featuring Liz Wokral, maker of porcelain dolls. Cindy Borody and Joni Fletcher will be bringing the musical presentation.
