Floyd and Ruth Asselstine of Asselstine Country just south of Blackstock enjoyed a week in sunny Jamaica late in November as they attended the annual meeting for Suzuki Dealers. There were about 70 other Suzuki dealers from across Canada at the meeting, based on their 1989 sales of motorcycles and ATVS. Floyd said that attending the dealers meeting was gratifying as Asselstine Country has been a 'Suzuki dealer for less than two years. He and Ruth got a look at the new 1990 models, and a sneak preview of the brand new Sea Flash, a motorized water vehicle that will be in dealer's show rooms in the New Year. Lindsay, who have not lost a game yet this season, came ex- pecting a tight game after a 10-8 win when they last met. Their male goalie was all set, along with their strong No. 25 and No. 12 blue sticks. However, Port had a surprise for them. In a free-wheeling, end- to-end game filled with excellent passes, hard shots and great skating, our Petites dominated the strong Lindsay squad and won 17-5. In such a high scoring game, all of Port's players were involved in the goals in one way or another. The highlight of the game was the hat trick by Michelle Branton, a persistant and determined first year Petite. The spectators who have watched her develop over the past three years were delighted with this long overdue happening. Katie Senyk, in goal, made many good saves against a club with several strong shooters. Four of the five goals scored on her were by No. 12, a player call- ed 'Tara, the Killer' by her teammates. Assisting Katie were our defensive lines of Jenny Storms and Melissa Dawson, Melissa Pereman and Lea-anne Wakeford, and Shona Moase and Sheila Ranger. These girls do not show up in the scoring column as often as the forwards, but their contribution to the team is impor- tant and their skills are improv- ing game by game. After an early practice on a windy cold Sunday morning, with 100 percent participation, the team had a noon league game against a team from Sunderland. We knew the team was up for this one as the noise from 16 ex- huberant girls increased until their team cheer, which raised the rafters. Again, the team played an ex- cellent passing game, 'with steady checking back in their own end. Sunderland, which had some strong skaters and quick shooters had no chance. With Shona in net, the defence at their best, and the forwards on the move, the game was in the bag at the end of the first period with a score of 9-2. At this point, Coach Harris made many changes to allow his players to gain experience on dif- ferent positions. Katie and Jenny both scored as a white stick, with Melissa Dawson and Sheila scor- ing on blue. Lea-anne, taking a turn on blue stick, got off a cou- ple of good shots which were deflected by their goalie. The final score was 15-3. The scoring in this game was: Brandy 5 goals, Dana 1 goal, 4 assists, Mandy 2 goals, 2 assists, Cara 3 assists, Joan 2 goals, Cin- dy and Katie 1 goal, 1 assist each, Jenny and Melissa Dawson 1 goal each, and 1 assist from Natasha, Melissa P. and Michelle. The coaches are pleased with the play of the regular white sticks, Joan, Cara and Cindy. They often begin the play back in their own defensive end, giving their line-mates the scoring op- portunities. They skate for miles as they also stay in position to de- fend on the swing back up the ice. A special thanks to these hard working playmakers.
