(see article for details) No luck for Auctioneers On Friday night December 1 the Novice Auctioneers travelled to Warsaw to start a 3 day tour- nament. This being a fairly large tournament using two arenas and having novice, atom and pee wee teams, the competition could be quite strong. The boys found this out quickly when they came up against a team from Whitby. After a scoreless first period, Whitby went up one in the second but Port tied it on a nice goal by Adam Jones. Moving the puck up to get the assists were Dillan Weber and Blayne Kinnunen. In the third the Whitby team got the eventual winner to down Port 2 to 1. Cornish Co-ed volleyball team participated in the first D.E.A.A. sponsored co-ed volleyball tournament for Durham Region. Featuring 28 teams from public schools all over Durham Region, the tournament was organized by Laurie Burnett from Roland Michener P.S. and took place at G.L. Roberts CVI in Oshawa. The Cornish team showed fine skill in defeating teams from Rosebank, Claremont, and Dr. Thornton in pool play before eliminating Central Park, Thorn- ton, and West Lynde in quarter and semi-final play. In the finals, the R.H. Cornish team met and was eventually defeated by a very strong team from Gandatsetiagon P.S. The coaches are exceptionally proud of the way the Cornish athletes handled themselves against this team who were all- Durham champions in both the girls and boys divisions this year. We look forward to hearing more about our fine athletes ac- complishments as they move on to high school next year. Jrs. in Nepean Port Perry I.G.A. Juniors travelled to Nepean near the capital city of Ottawa over the past weekend to participate in their annual tournament. During the tournament we met teams from Nepean, Metcalfe and Green's Creek. Our first game against Green's Creek was a lesson in frustration as we were outscored 9-1. Our girls just didn't seem to be able to make our passes connect and when we did our shooting it was inaccurate or the goalie made the stop. This team eventually went on to win the gold. In the second game we seemed to find our passing but the pick- ing up of passing skills appeared to be lacking. Every time we misplayed the ring the other team from Nepean took advantage of it. We were outscored in this game 8 to 3 but we must have hit 3 or 4 goal posts, that might have made the difference. In the third game late Saturday night the girls were determined to give it their best shot against Met- calfe. Everything seemed to be to our advantage as Metcalfe was short of players and our girls were fired up and ready to play. We eventually defeated this team by a score of 10 to 1 as the girls finally put it together. Scoring for the weekend was spread among all nine skaters with Danielle Lally 4 assists, 1 goal; Kendra McCrae 4 assists; Kathy Napper 3 assists; Mandee Porter 2 assists; Jennifer Hunter 2 assists; Lauri Thompson 2 assists; Jennifer King 2 assists, 4 goals; Val Payne 1 assist 3 goals; and Denna Lovering 6 goals. The coaching staff would like to thank these girls for the effort all weekend Py alin the parents who travelled to Nepean and sup- ported us even though the weather wasn't the best.
