Master Hiryu Bushido Kal, welcomed 7th degree black belt and general director of the In- Okuyama conducted an hour long teaching session fo? all the students, then supervised the grading. He was most Impressed with progress and effort shown by the students. Each year he travels to many countries to teach, coach and referee. The students are taught and encouraged to demonstrate respect, confidence, non-violence, and caring for others. By striving for these goals, students become strong- er members of thelr community. Tuesday night the Legionaires produced a strong effort, but were plagued by bad luck and lack of finish as Cobourg held on for a 5-3 win. After Cobourg took a goal lead, Chad Kearns tied the score, bang- ing one from close in. Jay Tred- 'way and Sean Ellis assisted on the power play marker. Following another Cobourg tally late in the first, Joe Broadworth was on the spot to tip in Dave Bourgeois' pass early in the second. Chad started the play in the Port end. Cobourg then pulled away with 2 power play goals in the period and added their fifth in the third. Sean finished out the scoring late in the game with a nice drive past the goalie's glove on a break. Jay T. drew the assist. Matt Mor- ris played a strong game on the Port blueline, catching a few for- wards with their head down as well as moving the puck crisply. Back home on Friday night, the line of Joe, Dave, and Chad had a big game totalling 14 points as Port throttled Lindsay 9-0. 'Joe had a hat trick as well as 3 assists, Dave also had three goals to go with a pair of assists, and Chad chipped in with 3 helpers. Scott Heasman contributed a goal and 2 assists, Jay T. had 1 and 1. Jeremy Norton turned in -an excellent effort and scored a big goal on a fine individual play. With the score of 2-0 at the time and Port playing two men short, Jeremy's big play was a back- breaker. Kenton LeFort and Billy Zaparanuik each added an assist to the offensive barrage. Davids Hairstyiing 3 - Port Perry Printing 1 The first' game of the day featured Davids Hairstyling tak- ing on the first place Port Perry Printers. This game had all the drama any game could ask for. Davids opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Tyler Wootton assisted by Leigh McCly- mont and Michael MacLennan. There wasn't any scoring in the second period, only because both goalies, Brad Monsma for Davids and Nick Pelyk for Port Perry Printing, both played beautifully in goal. In the third period, at the 10:42 mark Scott Sanderson scored assisted by Chris Jones and Jason Crosier giving Davids a 2-0 lead. At 8:23 Port Perry Printing scored, Glenn McCready from Jeremy Heyworth, closing the gap to 2-1, With two minutes left in the game Tyler Wootton scored an unassisted goal to put the game ou of reach and win it by a score 3-1. The second game of the day saw Re/Max Realty locking horns with Van Camp Construction. In this game the skating was fast and the passing crisp. There was a lot of heads up hockey going on by both teams. In goal for Van Camp was Devan Symes and in goal for. Re/Max was David Gainey who thus far this season is the scoring leader with 7 goals and 6 assists for 13 points Scoring for Van Camp was Jonathon Froats assisted by Keith Hancock, Aaron Chambers scored assisted by Todd Mitchell. Scoring for Re/Max was Bob Cowie assisted by Justin Sheehey, Scott Cunningham scored unassisted, Bob Cowie scored assisted by Mathew Caldwell and Bob Cowie finished up his 'hat trick" in style by scoring his third goal unassisted. Saturday night, Port visited Iro- quois Park for an exhibition game with the Whitby A Major team. The Legionaires put on a good display in a superbly officiated game to defeat Whitby 5-2. After Whitby had capitalized on one of very few Port miscues for a 1-0 lead, Joe continued to hold a hot hand as he fired a hat trick for the second consecutive game. First, he tied the game by tipping in a perfect pass from Sean, on a well executed 2 on 1. The go-ahead goal came after Chad circled the net and found Joe in the slot with a pass,. then early in the second he bumped the lead to 3-1 pump- ing Sean's rebound into the net. Sean made it 4-1, as a fine in- dividual effort completed a com- bination with the J's for Jay T.'s third assist of the game, and Jay K.'s second. Dave closed out Port's scoring, firing a high shot after passes from Joe and Jeremy. Whitby got a goal late but again Steve and Mike prevented any thought of a serious comeback. Port will travel to Uxbridge Monday night, and have games scheduled for this weekend as well as a Saturday tournament in Fenelon Falls. Malmont Atoms win tournament On Monday evening Malmont Farms Atom '""A's" travelled to Iroquois Park in Whitby for an ex- hibition game against Pringle Creek I.G.A. Whitby drew first blood at the 7:40 mark of the 1st on a low drive from 30' which bounced in off the inside of the post. The score remained 1-0 until early in the 2nd period when Kevin Gray scored a beauty unassisted. Whitby replied right away with two goals before the buzzer sounded to take a 3-1 lead into the final frame. Port put on a gritty perfor- mance in the third, scoring one early and another in the dying minutes to even the tally. Final markers were notched by Brad Shanley from Daryl McEnaney and McEnaney from Tommy Chambers and Kevin Gray. Goaltending by Jamie Reid and Daryl Holtby was solid allowing coach Bryce Jones to experiment with different line combinations in an effort to get the team to gel. On Friday evening the 'Green Machine" entered the chilly con- fines of the Omemee Arena to play the host team of the En- nismore Tournament. Port established superiority right away and clearly dominated the play in this contest. A superb effort from all hands resulted in an 8-0 victory. Scoring in this game was handled by Tommy Chambers with a hat trick, Daryl McEnaney with two and singles by Todd Parry, Brad Shanley and Tim Fitzpatrick. : - Saturday action shifted to War- saw with games against the Oshawa Bruins and the Lakefield Chiefs. After some early jitters which saw Oshawa score when the game was only 11 seconds old, our gang settled down to take control. They evened the score late in the se- cond when Daryl McEnaney pot- ted one unassisted and pulled in- to the lead early in the third on a nifty play by Todd Parry and Tim Fitzpatrick. Next to challenge Port were the Lakefield Chiefs, a team they were destined to play in the cham- pionship final. This game was a rather spirited affair with feelings running high on both sides of the ice as well as in the stands. Both teams played end to end before Malmont opened the scor- ing late in the first on an unassisted goal by Tommy Chambers. Tim Fitzpatrick, not to be outdone, duplicated this feat Bantam early in the second to put Port ahead 2-0. Todd Parry capped the scoring for our side late in the third from Timmy who did some heavy duty digging in the corner. Lakefield managed one goal in the dying minutes to close out the scoring and give Port a 3-1 win. The "Green Machine" toured to Ennismore on Sunday to play i. their rivals, the Lakefield Chiefs for all the marbles. These two evenly matched teams kept the fans on the edge of their seats throughout the scorelss first period. End to end action and lots of scoring chances were the order of the day. It was not until the closing seconds of the second period that Malmont were able to get one past the Lakefield netminder on a slick effort by Tim Fitzpatrick from Tommy Chambers. The '""Green Machine" again drew blood with only 21% minutes left in the game to take a 2-0 lead. The supporters breathed a sigh of relief, thinking the game was 'on ice" when Lakefield scored a con- troversial goal to put them right back in it. Seconds later Port replied with two unanswered markers to put the game out of reach. Scoring for Port Perry were Kevin Gray, Tom Chambers and Jeff Clarke. Goaltender Jamie Reid was selected M.V.P. and the cham- pionship trophy was presented to the team. A fine effort by all team members was the key to the suc- cess in this tournament. The stalwart work of defencemen Jason Logan, Rob Murphy and Mike Heasman kept quality scoring chances by the op- position to a minimum. The strong goaltending by Reid and Holtby resulted in only 3 goals against in 4 games - Good Work Guys! The tenacious work of Kent Johnston, Brad Morton and Brad Shanley, the members of our beloved 'Hound line" proves there are rewards for hard work as they wore out the opposition with their relentless checking all weekend long. : Special mention to Todd Parry who missed the final game but in Fridays and Saturdays action was all over the ice. This week the team will rest up a bit before a game in Port at 8:00 p.m. 'on Friday and head to Cobourg for a tournament next weekend. Bs take King City 9-6 Port Perry vs. King City On Saturday December 2, the Sportsland Bantams hosted King City to an exhibition game and skated to a strong 9-6 victory. In the first period, Jason Coutalakis opened the scoring assisted by Todd Smart and Steve Desautels. The second goal was popped by Sean McEnaney assisted by Ryan Picard. At the 3:43 mark Jeff Card connected with a nice shot assisted by Scott Wylie and Mike Sluggett, The forth goal was banged home by Todd Smart assisted by Jason Coutalakis. Sean McEnaney pick- ed up his second goal of the game at the 1:23 mark assisted by Peter King and Ryan Picard. The final goal of the period was banged in by'Sean McEnaney to give him the hat trick. Assists were given to Ryan Picard and Mike. Sluggett. In the second period the Sport- sland Bantams slowed their pace but still managed to score two more goals. Scoring was Ryan Picard assisted by Sean McEnaney and Lindsay P. , at the 2:32 mark Chad Garvock beat the goalie assisted by Jeff Card. In the third period the Sport- sland Bantams appeared to be running out of gas but Sean McEnaney managed to pop the final goal, his forth of the game to seal the victory assist was award- ed to Chris MacLeod. The next home'game for the Sportsland Bantams is on Wednesday December 6, when they will host Newcastle.
