Malmont Atoms hosted Cobourg Friday night and came up on the short end of the stick. The Green Machines had their work cut our for them as the Cobourg team took a 2-0 lead by the end of the first period. Second period saw Port pick up their pace and it paid off as they finally lit the scoreboard. Chambers moved the puck up the ice and fed it to Kevin Gray who pulled the goalie and found the net. Also drawing an assist was Todd Parry. Going into the third period the possibility for a tie was there, un- til Port was caught out of position and Cobourg took advantage of it and scored for the third time. Port went down to defeat 3-1. : Shorthanded by 3 players, Port had to work hard to stay on top of the play while Port's defense was extremely solid along the blue line. Good effort boys! Their next home game is Fri- day December 22, at 8:00 p.m. against Lindsay and they will con- tinue to see plenty of hockey ac- tion over the holidays, as they are entered in the annual Bowman- ville Christmas Classic Tournament. The coaching staff and team members at the Malmont Farms Atoms No. 1 wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. On Sunday Dec. 10, it the town of Cobourg at the "Barn" and on Monday Dec. 11 at their home fort. Port came out flying and had an attitude for work ethic and hustle in both games. Lovely! Coach Wilbur just loves hustle and folks he got plenty of the stuff he loves in both hockey games. This just proves his players are all in good condition. Beauty! O.K. lets talk some hockey. We're talkin' about the new style, sports fans, and that's disciplined hockey. On Sunday evening, a beauty evening for a hockey game, Port was in the "Barn" in Cobourg, no not milking the cows but conger- ing the Cougars 7-5. Oh Yeah! Hutchy got the call to play in the cage as it was his turn. He played pretty well despite some weird ones from the poor lighting in the barn. Port was out to play some hockey in this game and not to sit and rest in the penalty box. Port came out disciplined and only took 12 minutes, way to use your heads boys! Port got rolling in this game as it was Parry finding the green from Laird and Bricknell. Hey Parry, say FORE next time! That was all the scoring in the first frame 1-1. The 2nd frame was filled iwth cheers and sweat as Port popped home 4 unanswered tallies. At the 9:05 point it was Parry doing the damage as he chiped in from just off the green. Assisting were Laird and J. Cochrane, his cad- dies. Lovely. You know Parry's playin' great but he had to get the hat trick, that's just how it is sports fans. Parry ripped one top corner and he got the pass from Laird and J. Cochrane who worked hard to get the puck to Jeffrey. Then it was Empringham's turn to prove he can score just like Parry as he was sent in on a partial breakaway. He made no mistake ISKI WEAR | -- NOW AVAILABLE -- K-WAY, DITRANI, SUN-ICE Touques, Headbands, Ski Gloves PINERIDGE SPORTS SHOP Queen Street - Port Perry PHONE 985-2839 2 PORT PERRY STAR = Tuesday, December 19, 1989 -- 27 Blades a happy camper on this one, as he got a pass from Pashley and Bricknell. The game was now said to be 4-2 Port, at least that's what the statistician said. After Cobourg made it a 4-2 hockey game it was Logan who turned his game up an extra notch, he jammed at a smothered puck and it dribbled in. From McBride and Vanderlight. The 2nd frame end- ed on this note 5-3 Port. Beauty! The third was also filled with tremendous excitement as Port scored 2 more goals. Two minutes in, it was J. Cochrane who shovelled one home off a scramble in front. That just proves, if first you don't succeed, try, try again. Way to be Jay. Assists went to Bricknell and Parry. Cobourg then scored 2 goals 2 minutes apart to cut it to a 6-5 game, what a barn burner. Lovely. Parry had to put the icing on the cake as he shot one into an open net, from the Cochrane Brothers. Parry had a beauty game with 5 points - 4 goals, 1 assist. Blades was happy to win in the "Barn" and it was the first time in 3 years. He said "I don't mind wasting a Sunday to do this." Was he a happy camper! The next night, Monday, Bowmanville was in town and were they ever a bunch of hackers. Port didn't mind though as they took all the garbage that was thrown at them and manag- ed to stay out of the penalty box. This was a boring game fans as Port ransacked the blue and red team 6-0. What else is new? Oh, the Leafs won one. The goal scorers in this one were McBride (2) and singles to Empringham, J. Cochrane, Moase and Parry. These goals were all nicely set up as (2) were powerplay goals. Lovely! Showtime at the Memorial. The set up men picking up assists were Vanderligt (3), J. Cochrane (2), Laird (2), McBride (2) and singles to G. Cochrane, Vander Slagt and Parry. It was McBride's night tonight, as he had 4 - count 'em - 4 pts.. Good hustle Jay. Larocque (Hextall) got the call and played great. Shawn lived up to the Hextall nickname tonight as he picked up 3 penalties. Coach Wilbur was very happy with our hustle in these games and wants to see the disciplined part of the game still in full effect. So far so good for the Insulators as they've cut down the penalties to a considerable number. Port's next game is on Wednes- day night at 9:15 p.m. as they're put to a test against Millbrook. Come and support these boys. We would just like to say to the sports fans of Port Perry, "Merry Christmas and a happy New Year" to all, especially our spon- sors Ken and Diane Goreski. You guys should come out and catch a game some time, you'll love it! RONALD D. BRIDGEWATER, BA. Lis.
