28 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, December 19, 1989 Port Juniors rebound 53-34 The Port Jory High School junior boys basketball team's strong play led them to victory over a team from Father Austin High School. Great rebounding, and pass- ing by the Port team helped them to come out on top of a 53- 34 decision. The first quarter of the game was neck and neck, as each team fought for every point. The blocking, and rebounding by each team in front of their own hoops, left the game at a stalemate for a few minutes of play. The Port team rallied to come out of the 4-4 deadlock, and end the first quarter on the leading end of a 14-5 margin, Port continued their strong play in the second quarter, with precise shots, that hit the tar- et, almost every time. Father ustin, had chances, but could not capitalize on their efforts. Port held the lead of 28-16 at the half time mark. With excellent team work Port wound up the game with a convincing 53-34 triumph over the Father Austin team. Top scorers for the Rebels were Shawn Plain with 17 points, Mark Schwann with 9. Shawn Larocque with 8, and Drew Cardinal with 7, Scugog League Sportsland Keeps On Winning In the first game of the day, Larocque Electric won their third straight, edging their way up the standings with a 5-3 win over Compton Cable T.V.. Capitalizing for Larocque were Rick Campbell 2 goals, Glen McCoy 2 goals, and Paul Van Camp 1 goal, 1 assist. Other assists went to Bill Haynes 3 and Peter Lane one. Tweens shiver in COLD The Pineridge Sports Regional 'C' Tweens Ringette team cer- tainly had their share of games last week, three games 'away' and one 'at home.' In our first game last Wednes- day evening we travelled to Bob- caygeon and nearly perished in that C-O-L-D arena. the score end- ed up Bobcaygeon 11, Port Perry 4, but there was a lot of good ringette played despite the score. Lisa Dodd was the star of the show as she scored all four of Port's goals, one unassisted and the other three were assisted by Julie Ball, Vicki Stainton and Kyla McCrae. Many thanks to Jenna Norton's Aunt Sheila and Grandpa Roper as they were responsible for getting Jenna to and from the game. This was their first ringette game and, despite the frosty hour, they thoroughly enjoyed watching this sport! The next night the team and parents travelled to Manvers arena where we met up with a - team also sporting Pineridge Sports sweaters. Later we found out the girls had worn the boys hockey sweaters, but no matter how you looked at it, Pineridge Sports of Port Perry was always the winner! The score in this exhibition game ended up Port Perry 9, Manvers 1. Lisa Dodd was our top scorer again, netting 4 goals and 1 assist. Heather Lally 2 goals and 3 assists, Sarah Coyne, who usual- ly plays goalie, got us 1 goal and 3 assists, Leea Kinnunen 1 goal and 1 assist, Kyla McCrae 1 goal and Deanna Dempsey 1 assist. Amanda Clouthier volunteered to be goalie and did a fine job. Then we had a night off before we headed to Beaverton on Satur- day. Sarah Coyne was back in net again. We lost, 10-2 but again the score didn't indicate what an ac- tion packed hour we had. The Port fans were going wild - we had our own 'wave' in the stands, Michelle blew the horn - what a racket we made and boy did we have fun! Vicki Stainton scored unassisted and Deanna Dempsey - APPLES scored, assisted by Leea Kinun- nen. The Three 'J's - Julie, Jenna and Jean all played excellent " defense. Marci's aggressiveness and good passing are paying off. On Sunday we hosted this same Beaverton team. The score was 9-3 for Beaverton and again it was an entertaining hour of action packed ringette. Leea Kinunnen was the star, scoring all 3, assisted by Heather, Lisa and Deanna. We hope Amanda Clouthier is feeling better and back to good health again soon.
