ER EET TRING Tee wed r+ 16 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, December 28, 1989 Utica and Area News by Vera Brown December 31st Church Service will be held in Epsom Church at 11:15 a.m. This being the end of 1989, those in the church who will be respon- sible for compiling annual reports are asked to have them to me by January 15 so that they may be typed and ready for the Con- gregational meeting on February 4. Most of you can do it now, don't School bazaar raises $6,200 The last several weeks have been busy ones at Scugog Chris- tian School. Our December 2 bazaar at the Latcham Center was a success, with over $6,200 - raised! Thanks to everyone who helped out in any way. The grades 6, 7, and 8 made $236. - after ex- penses, on games at the bazaar. They will use - this: money for books and equipment for the school. On December 10, the grades 6, 7, and 8 Chimes Choir and the 3, 4 and 5 recorder and singing choir performed during the morning church service at Hope Christian Reformed Church. They were en- joyed by everyone. The kindergarten class has been busy learning Luke 2 and Christmas cards. They have an advent wreath in their class, which Mrs. Van Eyk lights, and an advent calendar. The grades 1 and 2 have been "traveling" around the world to see how other people celebrate Christmas. They went to Italy, Mexico and England. The students in grades 3, 4, and 5 have been sharing what Christmas means to them, in addition to their regular work. The senior class ended the year with a Christmas party on Friday, where they exchanged gifts with one of their classmates, instead of putting the recipients name on the package, students wrote a funny poem about the receiver, and the class had to guess for whom the package was intended! A good time was had by all. Tuesday, December 19 was the evening of the school Christmas program, '"'O Come All Ye Faithful." The program was ' beautifully done, with assistance from several parents, as well as the teacher's. What a lot of talent we have! There was a time for fellowship, coffee and Christmas cookies afterwards - it was a great evening for students, teachers, friends, and relatives! On the last day of school, many parents attended the regular Fri- day chapel (9 a.m.) for a Christmas card sing-song. After lunch, the whole school went to the arena for an hour of skating, and then it was back to school for class Christmas festivities, School was dismissed at the regular time and will resume again on Mon- day, January 8, 1990. The siaff wishes everyone ' a 'blussea Christmas, It is our sincere hope that despite this busy time that this season brings, we all may find time to pause and con- te the wonderful gift that Saviour. gave to us in his son, our ofbusies wait until the last minute. There were 12 tables of euchre played on Friday evening in the hall. 50/50 winner was Rita Par- ratt. Winners of prizes were ladies 1st Bessie Acton, 2nd Myr- tle Gimblett & 3rd Jennie Watson. Men's 1st George Harper, 2nd Ir- win Kydd & 3rd Ray Gimblett. Freeze-out winners were Gord Smith & Rita Parratt, Lloyd McDonald & Andy Munro were second. Draw winners were Bessie Acton, Archie Watson & Lloyd McDonald. There were several other draws for food items. There will be another euchre on January 5. The Spademan Christmas Tree Farm sponsored a draw during the Christmas season and the following were winners: 1. a tree for next year - Amanda Gran- tham of Toronto. 2. tree stand - Community Nursing Home in Port Perry. 3. wreath - Debra Downer of Janetville. 4. wreath - Annual reports due January 15 Randy Logan of Blackstock. Con- gratulations to these lucky people. Sympathy is extended to the MacSween family in the passing of Doug's grandmother of Scarborough. Christmas Day guests with Lorne & Eileen Slute were daughter Sharane Ross and boys, son Ken and family and an aunt Mrs. Trimble of Oshawa. Bill & I joined with Charlie & Susan of Kingston for Christmas Day and Boxing Day at the home of Dennis & Dorothy Gerrow and family at View Lake. U.C.W. for January will be held on Tuesday, January 9. Further details will be announced at Church when they are finalized. Irene Fielding had all her fami- ly home on Boxing Day. They added up to 16. The Stearman family held their Christmas gathering in Utica Hall on Tuesday. Don't forget the New Year's Eve Dance in Utica Hall this Sun- day evening.
