Ridgeland Developments notified Scugog Township earli- er this month that it wants the - issue settled by the Municipal Board. Ridgeland has already con- structed a nine hole golf course and developed 56 estate style lots on property just north of the Chalk Lake Road and west of the old Brock Road in the south- west corner of the Township. The company is now seek- ing approvals to add another nine holes to the golf course and develop 23 additional estate lots for expensive single family homes. # At issue is whether the company should be required to construct a second road into the development. Citing a study prepared by Totten Sims Hubicki which says a second access is not re- 'quired for the development, Ridgeland has asked the Town- ship to agree with this provi- sion. . However, several members of council have stated they want the second road constructed so there will be two access routes into the development. oy In meetings with council recently, a Ridgeland rep has said the company would prefer to provide a second access from the Chalk Lake Road which Man charged with theft of Oshawa lawyers car Durham Region Police ar- rested a 26-year old man with- out incident December 20, and charged him with auto theft. Several cruisers were ready near the Shirely Road to stop a car that had been report- ed stolen in Oshawa the previ- ous evening. The incident began when an officer patrolling in Oshawa spotted the vehicle that matched the description of one reported stolen by lawyer Terry Kelly. The officer, in an un- marked cruiser, followed the suspect vehicle north on the Oshawa Road and radioed ahead for other cruisers to as- sist. When one of the cruisers signalled for the driver to pull over, he did so without incident. Mark Brockhaus of no fixed address has been charged with car theft, possession of stolen property, and driving while un- der suspension. Is this your New Year's Resolution? The cost of constructing a second access road tc full mu- nicipal standards that would connect to the Brock Road has been estimated as high as $1 million. Building permits continue decline Although the value of building permits issued by Scu- gog Township climbed slight] in November, the slower growt trend in single family homes continued. A report from the Town- ship's building department shows 36 permits issued in No- vember, with a total value of $3.2 million. That's an increase over No- vember last year when the val- ue was $2.6 million on 39 per- mits. However, the November to- tal this year was mainly the re- sult of two permits for substan- tial projects: the $1.1 million expansion to the Mother Jack- sons plant on Simcoe St., and a permit valued at $750,000 for a retail plaza at the corner of Wa- ter St. and Highway 7A. All other categories of per- mits showed a decline last month over the previous Nov- ember. For new single family homes, there were just seven permits issued worth $927,000. Last year in November, the to- tal was 12 with a value of $1.4 million. The value of permits for ad- ditions and alterations also dropped significantly from $418,000 a year ago, to $96,000 for November, 1989. In 1988, Scugog Township experienced a building boom as the value of permits was just under $60 million, the highest ever single year total. Up to the end of November this year, the value of permits was just over $33 million. The largest single decline was for new homes, with the numbers dropping from 280 in 1988 (worth $36 million) to 148 so far this year, worth $22.4 mil- lion. vy wr' * DOORS & MOULDING * HARDWARE * Complete House Trim Packages at Discounted Prices.
