The Malmont Farms Atom No. 1team split their final two regular season games this past weekend coming away from Stouffville on Friday evening with a victory, while being handed a defeat in Uxbridge on Saturday. ~ Friday's game in Stouffville was a hard fought and closely contested matchup. After spotting Swope h-- ---- Pr - dat. 5 Pein | MoJacks were able to celebrate a goal on three occa- sions Sunday night as they tackled rival Uxbridge Bruins. Unfortunately for the boys In green and white, the visiting Bruins celebrated four goals to nip a listless MoJack squad 4-3. The loss came just 24 hours after Port Perry had turned in a stellar performance in Bowmanville to double up the Ea- gles 6-3. (see story on the sports pages) All proceeds from the game will go into the Central League players fund, which has been established to assist players fi- nanciallyif they are injured. - The AllStar game will be preceeded by a banquet at 5:00 PM in the community hall at Stouffville the first goal of the game, halfway through the first period, Malmont's Darryl McEnaney evened it up after breaking up a pass at centre ice and then going head to head with Stouffville's goalie. It wasn't until late in the second when Tim Fitzpatrick picked up Rob Murphy's pass and then beat Stouffville's goalie from just inside the blueline, that Port took the lead and the edge in the game. ~~ The Green Machine took advan- tage of the momentum they gain- ed in the second period. Opening up the final frame, Brad Shanley lifted a rebound over the sprawl- ing netminder who had just made saves on teammates Kent Johnston and Jeff Clarke. A few moments later, Kevin Gray took a pass from defenseman Jason Logan and fired a blistering shot that rang in off the top inside of the goalpost. Although Stouffville managed a final goal in the last minute of the game, the Malmont squad con- trolled the play and the final period of the game, very much earning the 4-2 victory. Saturday's match against Ux- bridge was quite a different style of game from the evening before. Both Jamie Reid and Daryl Holtby put on admirable perfor- mances in sharing the goalten- ding responsibilities. Unfor- tunately, Port's offense couldn't manage to get anything behind the Uxbridge goaltender. Both teams were very aggressive in this game and much more physical than most. Due to minor on-ice injuries, game delays and penalties, curfew was reached with 7 minutes remaining on the clock. Quite possibly, Port could have come away much better off than the 3-0 score indicated. With playoff schedules still to be confirmed we wish the team good luck as they begin post- season play.
