A lifelong resident of this area, Harry Sanderson passed away unexpectedly on Friday on his 83rd birthday. Harry has been a resident of the Port Perry Nurs- ing Home for the past several years. His funeral will be held on Monday afternoon from the Wagg Funeral Chapel. Sympathy to Jack and Lillian Lynde and family on the passing of Lill's mother Mrs. Mackey of Brooklin last week. Several from here visited the funeral home to pay their respects. A former caretaker of Cartwright High School, Mr. George Schmidt pass- ed away last week in Toronto. Sympathy is extended to his wife Mary and daughter Katie, her husband and family. Flora Samells' family of three genergtions turned up on Satur- day evening at her home bringing with them a birthday supper to celebrate her Tuesday birthday. The ladies attended the Faye's Bridal Show in Peter- borough on Sunday afternoon in preparation for Melody's summer wedding. No doubt it was a very happy event. Recent visitors with Kathleen and Albert Watts were Irene and Anson Taylor of Scarborough, Katherine Devins and daughter Melanie of Iroquois Falls, Carolyn Redican and sons Peter and Steven of Bramalea and Tanya Harvey and son Dwayne of Hamilton. The annual meeting of the Blackstock Agricultural Society will be held next Thursday, January 25 beginning at 7 p.m. sharp beginning with a pot-luck dinner. Anyone interested in at- tending is most welcome. Plans are already underway to celebrate Blackstock's 125th fair this year. Guest speaker will be Radio Personality Eddie Luther of C.K.Q.T. Reports and pictures of the 1989 fair will be presented. Blackstock W.I. On January 3 the Blackstock W.1. met at the hall for the first meeting of 1990. After fruit salad, pound cake etc. the meeting open- ed with the Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. Eileen McLaughlin acting as Secretary-Treasurer read the minutes of the last meeting and gave the treasurer's report. President Jean Adams conducted the business. A donation will be sent to Channel 19. She told of the 90th Anniversary celebration in Ottawa. A logo is being asked for from you talented people. On Tuesday afternoon January 9th sixteen ladies gathered at the home of Dora Martyn for the Unit meeting of the U.C.W. After a delicious dessert lun- cheon, the meeting was opened by singing the hymn 'Another Year is Dawning" accompanied by Jean Churchill on the piano. Next Jean Ferguson read from Ephe- sians 3:1-19. then she discussed "What is an Epiphany?" This is the anniversary of the coming of the Wisemen January 6th. Everyone sang 'Now Thank we all Our God." Our new leader Marion Larmer expressed appreciation to Grace Hall for all her work as our former Unit Leader. The minutes of the last meeting were read by the new secretary Dora Martyn. It was, mentioned that thank-you notes for flowers had been received. It was decid- ed that the February and March meetings will be held at the church. The Roll Call was answered by some interesting facts about our ancestors. Pictures of early Blackstock and some of its residents were passed around. The meeting closed with "Blest by the Tie That Binds" followed by the Benediction.
