The first meeting will be held at Port Perry High School, January 24, starting at 7:30 PM, and it will be followed by another March 21, also at the High School. The Liason Committee was formed last fall to keep the pub- lic aware of the Durham waste Management Master Plan, a plan that will seek to find solu- tions to Durham's garbage problems from 1996 to 2016. The Plan is being prepared by a consulting firm Maclaren ngineers. The Port Perry meetings are part of a Region-wide series of meeting to be held in all eight municipalities in Durham. Ralph Blank, chairman of the Liason Committee, calls the meetings a "golden opportunity for the people of Durham Re- gion to take part in finding solu- tions to waste-related problems before decisions are made." Members of the Liason Committee, Durham staff and politicians and reps from the en- gineering firm will be on hand at the meetings to answer ques- tions about waste management. The first meeting in Port Perry, Jan. 24, will centre on in- ventory mapping, followed by constraint mapping at the meeting scheduled for March. The public are encouraged to attend these meetings to present their views, concerns and ideas on one of the most im- portant issues facing the people of this area.
