Auctioneers nip Cobourg 2-1 Port Perry Novice Autioneers began the weekend with a 2-1 defeat in Cobourg on Friday night for better things were soon to come. Troy Campbell scored Port's goal assisted by Dillan Weber. On Saturday, the team travell- ed to Nobleton for a tournament. Their first game was against a determined squad from Fergus. Port Perry scored two early goals in this game; Seth Gray from Adam Jones and Danny Lyons assisted by Scott Jeffrey and Justin Kowalczyck. The team then played solid defence and earned a hard fought 2-1 victory. On Sunday morning, Port Perry faced a strong squad from Gravenhurst. Port's first goal in this game was scored by Casey Vanschagen from Ian Parlia- ment. Midway through the third period, Seth Gray banged in a re- bound Adam Jones and Blayne Kinnunen. Port went on to another 2-1 victory. The Championship game was played against a hard working team from Orangeville. In this game, our boys fell behind 2-0. The team was turned back repeatedly by a strong - goaltender. Midway through the final period, Port Perry finally scored. Danny Lyons scored with a fine wrist shot assisted by Casey Vanschagen. Things looked very bleak until, with only six seconds remaining and while killing a penalty, Casey Vanschagen scored in a good pass from Justin Kowalczyk. Five minutes of sudden death overtime did not decide the out- come so a shoot out was required. Shane Savage did a fantastic job and stopped all 3 penalty shots in the shoot out. Meanwhile Dillan Weber scored with a terrific shot on his penalty shot thus providing the Auctioneers with a 3-2 victory and the tournament championship. The scores of all these games indicate the strong defensive ef- fort put forth by all players. The goalies are Corey Branton and Shane Savage; on defense, Casey Vanschagen, Dillan Weber, Justin Kowalczyk, and Ryan Moynes, and at forward, Adam Hobbs, Ian Parliament, Brad Johnston, Adam Jones, Seth Gray, Blayne Kinnunen, Danny Lyons, Troy Campbell and Scott Jeffrey. Wings defeat Blue Jays 11-6 Junior In Junior floor hockey action, played at Immaculate Conception on Monday January 22, the Red Wings downed the Blue Jays by a 11 to 6 score. The Wings did not lose any time in this one as they took a 3-1 lead after one period. Aaron Chambers, Chris Langford and Joey Chambers all scored singles for the Red Wings. Evan Bertrand scored the lone Blue Jay goal this period. In the second period the Wings increas- ed their lead to 9-4. Chris Langford scored twice for the Wings while Glenn Thompson, Chris Murphy, Robbie Bredin and Matthew MacMaster score once each. Jeff Neal got 3 goals for the Blue Jays this period while Jon Chambers notched a single goal. The third period was a little closer but the Wings still outscored the Blue Jays by a 2-1 count to secure their 11 to 6 victory. Joey Drebit and Chris Langford scored the Wings goals this period while Evan Bertrand got the lone goal for the Jays. Chris Langford (4 goals) led the way for the Wings in this game. He was back- ed up by strong goaltending from Dane Gray and Darryl Dalton. Senior In Senior floor hockey action, played at R.H. Cornish, the Red Rockets upset the Shooting Stars by a 9 to 5 score. The Rockets led 3-1 after the first period. Justin Kowalczyk scored twice for the Red Rockets while John Hall got one goal this period. Seth Gray scored for the Stars. The Rockets dominated the second period as they increased their lead to 8-3. The scoring for the Rockets was spread around this period as Jamie Irvine, John Hall, Mark Suppelsa, Adam Jacobson and Justin Kowalczyk all scored once. Steven Elliott and David Ver- shuuren got the Shooting Stars goals. The third period was the only close one as the Stars actual- ly outscored the Rockets 2-1 but the game ended in a well earned 9-5 victory for the Red Rockets. Adam Stille and Seth Gray not- ched the Stars goals while Justin Kowalzyk completed the scoring (his fourth goal) for the Rockets. Matt Youmans and Kris Holland played strong games in net for the Rockets while Kevin Pike played a fine third period in goal for the Stars.
